Gaia Community [Witchvox Sponsor] presents...

Gaia Community Adult R.E.

When: Every Tuesday
Where: Overland Park, Kansas

Classes every Tuesday

Event Details: NEW ADULT EDUCATION SCHEDULE IN 2005!
Adult R.E. continues to change in order to continually present you with new opportunities to learn, teach, debate and evolve. In 2005, we will taking a break from some of this year's offerings to add two new courses to our Tuesday night schedule.
* First Tuesdays (through April) : Building Your Own (poly) Theology. From January until April, the first Tuesday of each month will be a session of the Building Your Own (poly) Theology class, based on the UUA's Building Your Own Theology course. One of our members has reworked the class to focus on pagan themes: do you believe in gods? Is humanity the end result of evolution? Where do we go when we trance? What happens when we die? All of these questions and more will be addressed; the course is ten sessions long, and while you are not required to attend every monthly class, attending as many as possible will greatly improve the results you get from taking the course. * First Tuesdays (May through December) : Everyday Spiritual Practices. The Pagan faiths often ask more of us than just a Sabbat or Sunday afternoon commitment. We expect ourselves to carry the tenets of our faiths into the secular/mundane world as well. This course will explore the ways in which we keep our connection to the sacred alive and strong in our day-to-day lives. Come prepared to listen and discuss, as we share our Everyday Spiritual Practices. * Second Tuesdays: Sacred Rhythms. On the second Tuesday of the month, please join us for Sacred Rhythms - we will be teaching drumming and other percussive instrument techniques, so that the Sunday afternoon drum experiences can be even better. * Third Tuesdays: Celtic Druidry. The third Tuesday will be a discussion and study group on Celtic Druidry, specifically the ADF style as practiced by several of our members who are also involved with the Wild Hare protogrove in the Kansas City area. Topics will include cosmology, approach to ritual, history, mythology, ideology, meditation, and scholarship from a Druidic perspective. Each class will build on the previous one, so please come regularly to get the most out of this class. * Fourth Tuesdays: Introduction to Paganism. Our fourth Tuesday offering for 2005 will take a "back-to-basics" approach to the family of Pagan faiths. If you are new to Paganism, if you are interested but have not yet chosen a Pagan path, if you have questions about Gaia Community's ritual practices, or if you are interested in traditions and styles outside of your own personal practice, please join us for this class. This class will cover a variety of topics:
o January 25: What is Paganism? o February 22: Elements of Ritual: The Ritual Frame o March 22: Elements of Ritual: The Ritual Body o April 26: Oh My Gods! (Relating to Deity) o May 24: Pagan Ethics o June 28: Traditions: Hellenism and Wicca o July 26: Elements of Ritual: The Ritual Frame o August 23: Elements of Ritual: The Ritual Body o September 27: Magic (k) in Theory (and Practice?) o October 25: Correspondence Course o November 22: Traditions: Druidry and Reclaiming o December 27: High Holidays * In months with five Tuesdays, we will present classes and speakers on an assortment of topics dealing with practical issues facing Pagans. We will announce full details on these special events as they are confirmed, but look forward to sessions on some of the following topics:
o dealing with religious discrimination; o pagan parenting; o social and political activism; o environmentalism and conservation; o coming out pagan to family, friends and co-workers; o talking about your faith; o legal issues for gay couples, poly groups, and other "non-traditional" families.
The Tuesday sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m., downstairs in SMUUCh's teen room (unless otherwise specified) . There will be no fee for this year's classes, though we will accept donations, and workshops in which you'll be making something to take home may require a materials fee - if that is the case, we'll let you know beforehand.
Childcare will be available at need - if you're going to bring the kids, please please please let us know by the Sunday before class so that we can arrange for somebody to be there to provide childcare.
Any questions or concerns can be sent to us at adulted@gaiacommunity.org.
