An insider's look at the O.T.O., Thelema, and Aleister Crowley
Event Details: Our guest speaker is a former member of an OTO lodge here in New Orleans. He will be speaking to us about the infamous Aleister Crowley, his influences, his life, and his climb to power.
Most occultists who may have studied the history of the rise of Neo-Paganism in the 20th Century will recognize that Aleister Crowley has had a major influence on it. Our guest will have outlines prepared on this particular topic, but you may want to bring material for notes. He will also be talking about Liber al vel Legis (The Book of the Law, Crowley's seminal work) and will go over the basics of Thelemic ritual and the Gnostic Mass (practiced at O.T.O. lodges across the world) . This will not be a dry exploration of a magician's life, but will instead open our eyes to the hunger for knowledge and power that Crowley had, and the lengths to which he was willing to get it. I've also been told it will be a light-hearted romp through Crowley's (oftentimes) hilarious antics!
Dues will be due at this meetup (we haven't collected in awhile, and meetup.com fees still have to be paid every month) so remember to bring $2 in cash with you.
