Event Details: Come and Join us for our
Community Yule Ritual

*****this ritual will be outside weather permitting and there will be a short meditation, so please bring a blanket or chair to sit in for the meditation*****
There will be storytelling, singing, the lighting of our Yule tree, and a feast as part of our celebration.
As the wheel turns to Yule, join us as we gather on the shortest night of the year to celebrate the rebirth of the Sun.
In ancient times, it was believed that the Sun needed our help to return, so the people would light bonfires both to strenghthen the Sun through sympathetic magic and also to show the Sun the way back to the earth. Lighted candles in windows and lights on houses and trees (Christmas tree lights) are the leftover symbols of these bonfires, and are meant to symbolize and aid the return of the Sun.
As part of early Yule gathering, our ancestors would bring along items they had crafted in the dark days of winter. Those items were swapped among the different families. This is thought to have led to the modern day exchange of gifts. So, in honor of this tradition, we will have a small gift exchange.
Gift Exchange:
The item must be either a small hand made item or something you regift (like the white elephant gift exchange items) This way no one has to spend $ on a present. Please wrap your gift. We will then exchange the gifts Pagan White Elephant style!!! It is a lot of fun to participate in this event, and if you haven't played this game before, the rules will be explained before we get started.
***You do not have to participate in the gift exchange if you do not want to do so***
Please feel free to bring a Yule story or song to share, and also a dish to share during the feast.
