Elder Lois Phares announces...

Pagan Day Of Prayer

When: May. 2nd. 2013
Where: Elizabeth City, North Carolina

Re: The National Day of Prayer May 2nd, 2013

Event Details: UPDATE MAY 1ST, 2013: I am asking my fellow pagans to come out in support of our Constitutional rights, and attend the event I'm hosting. I'm also asking my fellow pagans to attend the other prayer event to be held between 12pm to 1pm, in Courtroom A, in the Pasquotank County Courthouse. I understand that many of my fellow pagans and Wiccans, may not want to attend for valid reasons. However, I'm not asking for mass public "coming out", I'm asking for those who can, to attend both events, to let both the general public, and especially those who do not want us at their event in Courtroom A, that we have the Constitutional right to do so, and to worship as we choose. It is time to take the anti-pagan and anti-Wiccan cabals straight on, and stand up for our rights and civil liberties. We have to come together to finally end the centuries-old persecution. We owe it to ourselves, our families, and our fellow pagans. Even though I may be the only pagan and Wiccan there again, I'll be there every year, fighting for our rights, and exercising my right to do so. We have to take a stand. This has to be done. Thank-you, and Blessed Be.
UPDATE APRIL 3, 2013: I am asking my fellow local pagans and Wiccans to PLEASE show up on May 2nd. I know that some of you may be reluctant, but again, we have to stand up for our civil and Constitutional rights. I'm also inviting pagans and Wiccans from other areas to attend. Even if five people show up, that would be welcome. We have to come together. Please feel free to call me. Even if I am the only one showing up that day, I will continue to fight for my rights, and those of all pagans and Wiccans. Blessed Be.
UPDATE MARCH 12, 2013: My fellow pagans and Wiccans, I recently met and spoke with the head Commissioner for Pasquotank County. I was told that NO other group can reserve Courtroom A on the first Thursday in May, as "it's tradition" for the Commissioners office to automatically reserve the room for the local Christian group that organizes the event. Even though County rule states that a formal request application is required to reserve either a vacant courtroom or the commissioners Board Room, I was told that the head organizer of this Christian group "doesn't have to". I even filled out and submitted a request to reserve Courtroom A for next year's local National Day of Prayer event-and was denied, and told again that no other group can have the room on that day. When I submitted my request for Courtroom A for this year, I was told that I couldn't have it, (for the forementioned reason) , but I could have the Commissioners Board Room. Enough is enough. We have to make a show of numbers. We have to peacefully make our presence known, and stand up for our Constitutional rights, civil rights, and liberties. I'm not asking for a mass "coming out of the broom closet", just for our community to make a peaceful statement, by showing up, and joining me on a Pagan Day of Prayer. Thank-you, and Blessed Be.
In response to the less than welcoming atmosphere; at the annual local National Day of Prayer event, hosted by a non-pagan group, which is to be held at the Pasquotank County Courthouse, in Courtroom A, I am hosting an alternative Day of Prayer event, in the Commissioners' Board Room, located on the first floor of the courthouse. For the past two years, I've been told pointblank, by one of the organizers of the local National Day of Prayer, that the event is "for Christians only", and that I and other Wiccans/pagans are NOT welcome. This is despite what the National Day of Prayer website states, nor is it what our Bill of Rights states. I am inviting all pagans to come. It is long past time for our local pagan/Wiccan community to come together in solidarity, and let the public know that we are not "evil devil worshipers", and etc. . We comprise a large portion of the general population, and it's time to peacefully, and resolutely, make our long-standing presence known to the general public. It is time for more of us to "come out of the broom closet". I know that it isn't easy for some of us to do so, but we have to start somewhere. The harassment, and intolerance that we have endured must no longer go unchallenged. We owe it to ourselves, our families and friends, and for all those that went before us, pagan or not, that stood-up for all of our constitutional and civil rights and liberties. This is a public event, and those of all spiritual paths are welcome to attend. Please feel free to contact me at 252-207-3628, or write to me at Elder Lois Phares, Lot 13, 1403 River Road, Elizabeth City, N.C. 27909, for more information. Blessed Be To All
