Gay Mens Open Pagan Ritual
Event Details: The Yew Tree is seen as a symbol of life, yet is a common feature in graveyards across Europe as a guardian against evil and negative forces. Staves of Yew were kept in pagan graveyards in Ireland where they were used to measure corpses and graves. The tree which stays green throughout the year and extremely long lived, in excess of 2, 000 years, emphasises the dualistic natural of its associations.
This smooth, gold-coloured wood with a wavy grain has long been associated with magic, death, rebirth and the runes. In Norse Mythology the Yew tree is represent by the Rune Eihwaz and is one of the two centre runes. The yew is one of two trees that is associated with Yggdrasil, the world tree.
In this ritual, we will be consecrating Yew branches and then making them into Wands or Runes. Bring wood saw, sand paper, oils, cord, crystals, feathers or anything else you want to use to make this your own.
The Open Circle meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise indicated) at the LGBT community center, 8 pm 208 13th Street. If you are unable to attend during the week, we also have an Open Circle at Magickal Realms in the Bronx on the first Saturday of the month.
Open to all gay and bi-sexual men on a magical path to celebrate Full Moon and Sabbat rituals as well as monthly rituals to worship and celebrate the Divine . All levels of experience are welcome. There is no joining, membership or initiations. Just have a positive attitude, open mind and willingness to grow.
We welcome solitary Wiccan, degreed Wiccan, the curious, the questioning and everything in-between. Ritual formats in the past have been Wiccan, Feri/Faerie, Egyptian, Druid, and Shamanic.
Note to previous participants: each ritual is led by a different person each month. If you attended a ritual that didn't resonate with your beliefs, try again with a different ritual leader or volunteer to lead a ritual.
