Inis Ull - Apple Isle Protogrove, ADF announces...

A Druidic Samhain High Day RIte

When: Nov. 3rd. 2012
Where: New York, New York

The Cailleach and the Samhain Spiral Sea

Event Details: There is a mystery to Samhain. Many of us associate the Spring with new beginnings; yet, for the ancient Celts, Samhain marked the New Year. As humans retreated to the safety of their lowland homes, the mountains and moors, the fields and forests, the seas and shores were left to the untamable forces of Nature: the wild animals, the storms, the darkness… The great Gael Goddess, the Cailleach is Mistress of the Primordial Power of this season; and it is to her that we will turn for guidance as we embark upon the new creation that is the year to come.

We will honor the Cailleach and join her in her work within the awe-inspiring whirlpool at Corryvreckan. Into this vortex, this "cauldron of the speckled seas, ” the Cailleach plunges her plaids, washing away not only the dirt, but the beautiful colors and patterns of the cloth as well; leaving it white as the snows settle upon the highlands. We will add our energies to hers, feeding our year’s worth of created colors and patterns into the maelstrom: the year will be reborn, afresh, anew - and we, freed from the attachments of the past, will be able to recreate ourselves and our grove right along with it.

So, join us, all folk of good will, in this ADF High Day rite and magical work! Bring gifts for The Cailleach and any of the great Gael Kindreds; bring poems and songs, food or drink, objects of beauty, oaths or whatever your heart tells you will please those we honor.

IMPORTANT: Please note that any alcoholic offerings MUST be in containers which disguise their real identity. We are exercising our religious rights, but it is best to avoid troubles with the authorities!

We will be asking for donations to help cover our Protogrove's costs. Five or ten dollars each would help us out greatly--whatever you feel comfortable giving! Your attendance and participation is more valuable than cash!

Event Location: The Great Hill in Central Park in New York
Event TIME Details: 3:30pm

Directions: At 3:30pm one or more of us will meet any newcomers at the benches south of the restrooms at the top of the Great Hill (this is on the *northwest* part of the hill, across from where we hold our rites) . To get there, enter the park via "Strangers Gate" at 106th Street and Central Park West, climb the stairs and, when you get to the top, you'll see the benches to your left (north) between where you are and the restrooms. We'll then head across to our ritual area. If you are late: from the restrooms, walk east across the top of the hill - hopefully, the fairies will lead you to us!
