Herbalism 102 Workshop

Event Details: In Herbalism 102 you will learn:

Pills & Capsules
There are certain aspects of this method of administering herbs that make it advantageous to use. Herbal pills and capped herbs provide a convenient method of ingesting herbs that have strong or harsh flavors. People who do not enjoy drinking herbal teas or using alcohol-based tinctures may also prefer taking herbs in pill form. The pills and caps tend to have a long shelf life and do not require refrigeration or preservatives. They are compact and easy to carry with you. Their compact nature also makes them easy to ingest.

Another popular way of making herbal medicines is to produce a tincture. Used for herbs that require a solvent stronger than water to release their chemical constituents, a tincture is an herb extracted in vodka, brandy, or other alcohol based menstruum.

Decoction, or simple decoction, is a term for an infusion which has been reduced to one-half its volume by slow evaporation. A double decoction is an infusion reduced to one-fourth of its original volume. Some herbalists use "decoction" to refer to what is called an infusion; others use it to mean something closer to tea.

Similar to a tincture, glycerites are herbal preparations that use vegitable glycerine as the menstruum.
