Sassafras Grove, ADF announces...

Beltane Rite and Picnic

When: Apr. 28th. 2018
Where: South Park Twp, Pennsylvania

Beltane Rite and Picnic

Event Details: Celebration begins at 12:00 pm
Ritual begins at 2:00 pm

Please join Sassafras Grove on Saturday, April 28 for our Beltain ritual and celebration! The festivities will be held outdoors at East Rise Grove in South Park. All Pagan and Pagan-friendly people are invited to join us for Pittsburgh's longest continuously running Pagan tradition! Children are welcome!

Our ritual this year will be held in Norse style and will honor Freyr and Freyja, twins of the Vanir associated with fertility. We will also, of course, be dancing joyfully around the Maypole as we bring in the May!

12pm – 1pm: Flower crown craft
1:00 pm: Choosing attendants to Freyr and Freya
1:30: Ritual briefing
2:00 Rite begins
After ritual: Community potluck picnic
After feast: Our annual auction

What to Bring:
* Offerings for Freyr and Freyja (Suggested offerings include: mead, beer, apple juice, bread, honey, flowers...anything representing the new green of the season, fertility or passion)
* Flowers to share for making May crowns
* Drums, tambourine, bells, etc. for festive music-making
* A chair/blanket if you wish to sit during the ritual
* A dish to share at the potluck picnic
* Feast Gear (see below)
* Cash, check or card for the Beltain Auction

While alcohol is permitted at this event, glass bottles and containers are not allowed at this site. Please plan accordingly. If you chooses to drink alcohol please do so legally and responsibly.

Pets are welcome at this rite, but they must be kept leashed at all times per park regulations.

Feast Gear-In order to reduce the amount of paper plates, plastic utensils and other disposable items we are using, we encourage folks attending our events to bring their own feast-gear for pot luck.

We’ll still have some plates and utensils available, however, we feel we need to make a greater effort to be kinder to the environment and Mother Earth and ask you to join us. We are, after all, tree-hugging dirt worshipers :-)

Plant a Tree! Over the next year, Sassafras Grove will be collecting cash donations to be used to plant trees through the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of the Earth Mother. For just $2.00 we can plant a tree in a National Forest! So if you have an extra dollar or two, please consider donating. We'll keep you updated quarterly on the planting progress!

Our rites and events are free and open to the community, but we do rely on the monetary donations of those who are able to defray the cost of space rental and ritual supplies. Our Beltain auction is our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year, so please be as generous as you can. Take home fabulous merchandise while supporting your local Druids!

For more information about this event, Sassafras Grove in general, or our parent church Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF) , please feel free to email us at
