Sassafras Grove, ADF announces...

Samhain Ritual

When: Nov. 2nd. 2012
Where: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Samhain Ritual and Celebration with Sassafras Grove, ADF

Event Details: Please join us for our Samhain rite on Friday, November 2 at the Friends Meeting House. Please plan to arrive around 7:00 PM as the rite will begin promptly at 7:30 PM. All Pagans and Pagan friendly people are welcome to attend. In NeoPagan tradition, Samhain marks the time of year when the veils between the worlds are thin, allowing spirits to cross more easily between them. Sassafras has long followed the tradition of looking upon the time between Samhain and Yule as the “wasteland;” bare, desolate, and growing ever darker until the sun begins its ascent to brighten the days at the Winter Solstice. Odin, the Wanderer, will join us as gatekeeper and guide on our journey as we move through the barren lands to the Center of the World. We will have the chance to meet at the Well of Wyrd and to acknowledge the Norns, the three maidens who tend the World Tree, lay down laws, and set our destinies. This year’s Samhain rite gives us an opportunity to meet the wasteland head-on--to travel through desolation and disconsolation and discover those parts of ourselves that are needful for our journey and what we must leave behind us in the shadows as we look ahead to a brighter day. Please bring:· Divination tool (s) you wish to have blessed or consecrated during the rite (bringing tools is purely optional) A snack to share after the rite Chow Wagon donation (see below) Your acceptance that you are part of life’s great pattern: The Web of Wyrd.
*Please note that our hosts do not allow alcohol at this site.* The Friends Meeting House is located at 4836 Ellsworth Avenue in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh's East End. There is a small parking lot adjacent to the building in addition to on-street parking. [You can find a link to a map for the Meeting House on the front page of their Web site at http://www.quaker.org/pghpamm/.] Our rites and events are free and open to the community, but we do rely on the donations of those who are able to defray the cost of space rental and supplies. Please remember, even a dollar can help make the difference between having our costs covered and Grove Members having to pay them out of our own pockets. Support your local Druids!
Sassafras Grove also supports Animal Friends' Chow Wagon Program. During these tough economic times the last thing a family needs is to have to give up a beloved pet. If you can, please consider bringing a package of cat or dog food (canned or dry) , cat litter, food/water bowls, treats, or toys for donation to the Program. Donations must be new and unopened. Chow Wagon serves over 1000 local families by distributing food and toys through food pantries. See http://www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org for more information about Animal Friends.
For more information about this event, Sassafras Grove in general, or our parent church Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF) , please feel free to email us at info@sassafrasgrove.org.
