Samhain Ritual Honoring the Ancestors
Event Details: As the year draws to a close, please join MoonFire for our Samhain celebration. This year we'll be walking between the worlds to encounter the ancestors and opening ourselves to receive any guidance or messages they may be willing to share. Prior to arriving, please bring three lists of ancestors you would like to honor or invite to encounter. There are three types of ancestors we'll be honoring:
- The Family Ancestors: Relatives who have died whom you have known and wish to honor (parents, grandparents, great grandparents, etc., siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and other relations including family pets)
- The Cultural Ancestors: The cultures, ethnicities, and countries of your Ancestral heritage you wish to commemorate. In addition, list heroes - those deceased females and males whose lives, character traits, and/or accomplishments have been your inspiration. They can be historical and/or legendary figures you never physically met as well as neighbors, friends, school teachers, work associates and others who have been important influences upon you.
- The Spiritual Ancestors: Religions, philosophies, and spiritual traditions which have nurtured you spiritually. Include the names of spiritual leaders, teachers, authors, priest/esses, ministers, mentors, and guides who have crossed over to the Spirit world and who have aided you in your spiritual growth through direct contact while living and/or through writings, teachings, and other forms of legacy. Names of your Spiritual Ancestors can either be specific individuals and paths or general, such as "Ancient Ones" or "Keepers of the Old Ways."
Please also feel free to bring items that represent your ancestors to place on each Ancestor Altar during the ritual, as well as a drum or rattle for the pre-ritual. After the ritual there will be tarot readings and other divination as well as a "Halloween Party" which will include games and other fun activities you may remember from your childhood. Don't forget your dish to share for the pot luck!

Event TIME Details: 7:30 PM until 10:00 or 11:00 PM
Directions: The UU Church of Arlington is on the southwest corner of Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) and George Mason Drive, across from the Masonic Lodge and Nation Guard buildings.
From the western VA Beltway, I-495, take the exit for Route 50 East, for about 6 miles. Take the exit ramp for George Mason Drive and turn right at the light at the end of the ramp. The church driveway is the first turn on the right.
