Pagan Books for Prisons
Event Details: If you have any extra books on your shelves, or books that you don't use or need anymore (especially books about religion/spirituality, self-help, meditation, or recovery/addiction) , please consider donating them to one of the many prison chapels in our state.
We believe that spirituality and positive life affirmations are essential to focusing one's life in a positive direction.
We also believe that all prisoners should have access to books of their religious beliefs. However, there is always a shortage of these items, in particular, for those of an alternative faith and worship.
For incarcerated Pagans, it is especially hard to find reference materials or books of spiritual enlightenment. Sometimes, the only possible access is from a prison Chapel Library.
As you can probably imagine, there are very few of these type of books available to Wiccans, Native Americans, Asatru, Voodun, and practitioners of other Pagan traditions or non-Christian paths.
There is very limited exposure to any of the Pagan deities, our cosmology or mythology, our rituals, wisdom, practices, ethical and moral codes, knowledge, nature spirituality or traditions.
Spiritual training, celebration, development, and encouragement are important facets of all religious practices. We feel strongly that books are one of our most valuable sources of knowledge and inspiration, and can be powerful tools for transformation.
We encourage anyone who is interested in trying to make a difference, to make donations to your local prison chapel.

SPECIAL UPDATE: On Sunday, May 3, 2009, we delivered 301 books to the Women's facility at Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Wisconsin!! The great majority of these books were relevant to Pagan Spirituality and Self-Help. With this donation, we are well on our way to realizing our dream of creating the largest Pagan/Metaphysical Prison Library around! Our sincere THANKS! to all who have participated in this important project!! We appreciate your help and involvement.
