An Exploration of Sacred Plants & Trees
Event Details: The Green Man is the consciousness of the natural world in anthropomorphic form; as William Anderson writes in his poem "The Green Man", "I am thought of all plants." Travel through the seasons and meet the different faces of the Green Man as embodied by the plants, trees, and fungi which form His visage:
- In Spring, meet the trees and plants which symbolise rebirth, initiation, and new life;
- In Summer, meet the mighty Lords of the Forest, the great Oaks and Beeches who rule the greenwood and the plants which make up their court;
- In Fall, meet the forces of decay and the forces of spiritual communication: the fungi who reduce stumps to rich mulch to sustain the next generations, the Apple Trees who fruit sustains the dead, and the herbs which enhance communication with the realm of the spirits, ancestors, and fae;
- In Winter, meet the Holly, the Yew, the Mistletoe, and the Ivy and their hosts and seek the promise of new life in a season when the green runs deep underground
Learn about how different deities from around the world embody the imagery and associations of the Green Man and Green Woman, and partake of the Red Meal, a ritual communion with the spirits of nature. What will the Green Man say to you?
