The Standing Bear Community announces...

November Sweat Lodge 2012 (WV)

When: Nov. 17th. 2012
Where: Charles Town, West Virginia

Monthly Prayer Ceremony

Event Details: Please join the Standing Bear Community for a prayer ceremony that honors the seven generations and brings health and help to the people. The community comes together to honor the Sacred Directions, the Ancestors, and the spirits in this humble ceremony. We will arrive early to help prepare the site for ceremony, send off our prayers to the spirits, and then share a meal together after the ceremony is concluded.
During the ceremony sacred songs will be sung, prayers spoken and teachings or stories will be shared. The Water Pourer will honor the stone people who makes the lodges possible at the beginning of each round. All people who come with an open heart and open mind are welcome to attend this purification ceremony.
We suggest bringing towels for your use during and after the lodge (two typical bath towels is sufficient) , a sarong or other attire to wear during the sweat, a gallon or two of water to help contribute to the ceremony, a potluck dish to share, and a tobacco or other thanksgiving offering for the Water Pourer.
The shared meal after the ceremony is is brought by those who attend and help with the ceremony. The communal meal is an important part of ceremonies and shows our commitment to the continued health of the people. Please, do not leave the ceremony without thanking the Water Pourer, Singer and Fire-tender.
We respect that you come to Ceremony with an understanding of your spiritual path and traditions, our Ceremonies are not restricted to any specific religion, tradition or path. Ceremony is a way of life and a time for prayer. Pets, alcohol, and illegal substances are not allowed.
Standing Bear Community does not charge for Ceremonies. However, due to the obligations under which we work it is very helpful when people choose to make a donation. Money is always appreciated, it helps to pay for tarps, wood, gas for lawnmowers etc., but donations come in many different fashions; tobacco, sage, sweetgrass, tarps or blankets and helping out.
Event is held rain or shine.
