When: Dec. 22nd. 2012
Where: Charleston, West Virginia

Sacred Crossroads Open Yule Celebration

Event Details: Merry Yule!
(PS The world isn't ending.)
We are welcoming the birth of the new Sun from Mother Night, the longest night of the year, the Winter Solstice.
The Holiday Season is often a time of great stress, commercialism, and growing debt. We want to shed this burden, and turn our energies toward the rebirth and renewal of the Sun. Our ritual will focus on releasing the unnecessary burdens this time puts upon us, and give an opportunity to bless ourselves, and each other, with all the good things in life. T
his isn’t a time for doomsday prophecies about the end of the world, or pressure from the dominant culture about how we should celebrate. This is a time for new beginnings, and the true joy that comes, not out of “things, ” but out of our deepest and most divine selves.
The present you can bring us is your presence. Give us your company, and your blessings, and we will share the same with you.

After the ritual will be a festive potluck, but it will only be as festive as we all make it. Our potluck theme is the Sun, so maybe consider something citrus, or perhaps pomegranates. Maybe something that evokes the merry feeling of Saturnalia; if someone wants to bring pig we won't say no, but we have vegetarian folk as well. Wassail, mulled cider, eggnog, cookies. Let your imagination guide you.

Also the world isn't ending, so celebrate and put away that bug-out bag you doomsday preppers. Garb up if you want to. We would like to see Ivy Queen, Holly King, maybe Krampus if someone is feeling their inner Dom, or come as you are. We care about you showing up more than a costume. We give thanks for our continued existence and celebrate our community and each other. Let our warmth usher in the new Sun! Blessed be!
Sacred Crossroads is a chapter of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, and is a ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Charleston to the Pagan community. UUC is the only Pagan-friendly church in this area.
It is the practice of Sacred Crosssroads to collect non-perishable food for the Covenant House food pantry. If you are able, please bring a donation. Covenant House always needs canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, rice, dried beans, powdered milk, cereal, pasta sauce, and peanut butter.
