Ct. Witch Memorial

Proclaimed by: Tony Griego - A WitchVox Sponsor
Proclaimed from: Hamden, Connecticut

Proclaimation...

On February 6, 2017 the Windsor, Connecticut town council made history in the State of Connecticut. The town council heard testimony from Mayor Donald Trinks, descendants of women who had been hanged, interested persons, and the Associate Pastor Charlene C. Corbett, of the First Church in Windsor United Church in Christ, regarding the eleven people hanged in the state for the crime of witchcraft. The council voted unanimously 9-0 to clear the names of town residents Alse Young hung in 1647, and Lydia Gilbert hung in 1654 for witchcraft in Windsor, Ct. Nine other women and men were hanged in the state for this crime.

Because history was made on February 6, 2017, a committee, The Ct Witch Memorial committee, believes it is appropriate to design and place a bronze memorial plaque for all eleven victims who lost their lives during those times. The committee is considering several places for placement of the plaque. Whether witch or Christian these eleven people should be remembered as part of Connecticut's history. They were unjustly given the title of witch. We can make history in Connecticut by commemorating this tragic event.

We are in discussion with plaque makers as well as at least one town where we would like the plaque to be placed. Follow up posts as to progress will be made. All donations will be greatly appreciated. We can and will make this memorial happen.

You may contact me at the CT WITCH Memorial Facebook page
Donations for this bronze memorial plaque can be sent to:

In solidarity,
Tony Griego
