Connecticut Witchcraft 1647 - 1662

Proclaimed by: Tony Griego - A WitchVox Sponsor
Proclaimed from: Hamden, Connecticut

Proclaimation...

Be a Voice for Those Who Had No Voice, Be a Part of History
Connecticut Witchcraft 1647-1662

In 1647 Connecticut Colony executed its first person accused of Witchcraft under Puritan laws. Eleven people lost their lives until the executions stopped in 1662.
Since 2005 a small group of people have been trying to convince the Legislators of the State of Connecticut to clear the names of those eleven named Connecticut Colony residents who lost their lives so that they may rest in peace. Most recently there is a Governor’s Proclamation Request upon Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s desk awaiting his approval and signature.

If you also believe that Connecticut should follow Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Virginia and acknowledge this shameful moment in American history then we ask that you do the following.

Purchase a postcard depicting a scene in your Connecticut town and write in as a message, “I am a Pagan/Witch and I vote.” Please include the line, “Clear the names of Connecticut’s eleven accused and executed Witches.” If you are not from Connecticut purchase an American Flag post card and include the same message. Sign the card only if you wish to.

Send this card to:
Governor Dannel P. Malloy
Governor’s Office
210 Capitol Avenue
Room 408
Hartford, CT. 06106

You may also send a postcard to as many local elected officials as you wish. It is important that we let our elected officials know that we are Pagans and Witches who vote. We all need now to be that voice that was not there for those called out as a Witch, send a postcard and Vote.

Update: April 5, 2013 Governor Malloy has completely ignored our efforts to clear the eleven executed Connecticut Witches. Governor Dannel P. Malloy has never responded in writing. We will now consider other options. Thank you to all who took the time to send him a postcard.

Update: September 1, 2013. Governor Malloy has still not recognized or responded to our efforts. Sue Campbell, a free lance writer, wrote an excellent article in the August 2013 issue of Connecticut Magazine about our efforts. She presented several other view points to the issue. I have contacted another electected official in Connecticut and will continue to update our efforts. Thank you for your continued support.
