Group Overview: Don't let the word Church scare you off! We are equally happy with terms like temple, circle, grove and organisation etc.
The Interfaith Church of Australia came into being in 2011 from the bones of Interfaith Australia (est. 2007) .
We are an unincorporated charitable institution and foundling Church which will be seeking to be granted 'Recognised Denomination' status in the near future. This will allow us to appoint clergy in our affiliate groups (Churches, Temples, Circles, etc.) to perform legal marriage ceremonies. Due to restrictive laws, Australia has very few non-Christian Religious Celebrants. This will only change if we are supported (or someone else is willing to fight the same battle) .
In the future we will also have a training arm for members and affiliate organisations to teach and receive online training in literacy, computer skills and in many religious and faith based areas. Initial training is expected to be free or very low cost.
We don't do collection plates, sermons, evangelism or indoctrination into any belief. All monies raised go towards the goals of the Church and do not financially benefit members or staff.
We are happy to accept new members from all beliefs who agree with the canons of the Church (see http://ic.org.au/) and hope to stamp out religious discrimination in Australia. To join, you must provide us with your name, email address and postcode as a minimum.
