Sacred Oak Temple

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Edmonton, Alberta
Key Contact: Sam Wagar

Spiritual Path: Outer Court Wiccan
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Teaching Available

Group Overview: There is a spiritual power and fulfilment that is found by gathering in community in ritual celebration which cannot be found in solitary prayer.
There is value to community which brings together experienced and knowledgeable people with those who wish to learn, that one-off workshops taught by well-meaning but unqualified people cannot substitute for.
There is value to leadership that is trained, educated, deeply grounded, and responsible to the group that it is serving, and prepared to do chaplaincy in hospitals, schools, and prisons.
There is value in continuing regular and frequent ritual gatherings, to regular competent teaching and workshops, to religious education programs above the 101 level, to a public church.

These reasons and others are why we are establishing the first Temple, Sacred Oak, of a new Wiccan church, the United Wiccan Fellowship of Alberta.

The mission of this Fellowship is to provide Wiccan religious services to this province and to share the insights of our religion as widely as we are able.
What is special about our Fellowship is our clear sense of mission and our determination to centre all our activities around this clear vision. We are centred in our values, in the community we are building together, in our connection to the Gods, not in the personal charisma or pull of our leaders.
Our religious foundation is in our Temples and ritual, when we gather together to experience the presence of the Gods in our community. Our ritual will be as powerful and moving as we can make it, a worthy service for the Gods.
We also will have an active presence among those we are here to serve. We will be out in the community, not only in the Pagan and Wiccan communities but also in the LGBTQ communities, among students through chaplaincy, in solidarity with minority communities that are being threatened.
We are women and men, LGBTQ and straight, children and parents, finding ways to be together with each other, to learn with each other, and to grow together in the presence of the Gods. We are a group of Wiccans who have come together as a covenantal community, a sworn fellowship that aims toward the good and that acts toward its realization, to worship our Gods, and to celebrate the seasons of the Earth, the Sun and the Moon.
We are dedicated to community and mutual aid, to respectful engagement, and to service and religious education both inside and outside our membership. We celebrate experience and the growth through it into a deeper understanding of our individual and collective frailty and strength. We do not claim to be all Alberta Wiccans or to be following the only valid paths inside our religious movement.
We place a high emphasis on religious education, on mentorship of young leaders, and on outreach to the larger communities of Pagans and our allies. We will establish Temples around the province to provide religious services and support. Building on our successful University of Alberta Wiccan chaplaincy we will make chaplaincy a key part of our outreach over the next several years, developing connections with Wiccan youth and scholars. In the same spirit, we will build interfaith work, including a focused co-operative spirit regarding other Pagan groups and communities in Alberta.
Key to our development is theology beyond the level of Outer Court Wicca, understanding our relationships with the Gods and our service to Them as They manifest in the world and in our lives. To these ends we include the workings of dedicated religious orders and covens as well as Outer Court Temples in the work of the Fellowship.
