Congregationalist Wiccan Association of BC
Age Range/Type: Family
Located in: Burnaby, British Columbia
Key Contact: Samuel Wagar
Spiritual Path: Wicca
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Legal Clergy... Teaching Available

Group Overview: In the words of our former Prime Minister, Joe Clark, we see our Temple as a "community of communities", bringing together people looking for covens with covens wanting to recruit, people looking for religious community without necessarily the intensity of coven ritual with experienced Elders, children and families, and a range of Wiccan and Pagan beliefs and practices. We are also disabiility-friendly, meeting in a full accessible space.
Congregationalist Wiccan Association is a BC incorporated religious Society (2004) , branch of the federal Congregationalist Witchcraft Association (incorporated 1991) and our activities are open to the general public.
The Vancouver-Burnaby Temple has been offering Open Circles since May 2004. It presently meets on or near the Sabbats in rented premises (contact us for times and details) . We also sponsor a coffee meet and classes in various aspects of the Craft.
CWA is not a coven. It is a public organization. It is also not a general Pan-Pagan organization but a Wiccan religious body. Our constitution and by-laws are available on our webpage. We have licensed Ministers in Vancouver, Vernon, Penticton and Nanaimo who may perform legal marriages. We have begun the process to be approved as a charity - but the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly!
CWA emerged from an ongoing discussion in the BC Pagan communities about the best way to serve the needs of people who for a variety of reasons have not been able to find a Pagan religious community. People without a great deal of spare time, wih children and 9 to 5 jobs, who are not drawn to the higher level of commitment of coven work, have not been well-served.
We provide an opening into the Wiccan communities, a church, religious education for children and adults, an opportunity for involvement in community service projects that our members are co-ordinating, and training toward Priesthood for those who are called. But we are centred on public service, not on private smaller group activities.
The founding members are all experienced both in Wiccan activities (averaging ten years of involvement) and public service through a range of charities and non-profit organizations. We are committed to community service in pragmatic forms, not to caressing our egos.
Blessed Be
