Group Overview: Group Overview: The Wiccan Church of Canada (WCC) is one of Canada's oldest Wiccan organizations, with a strong focus on public ministry, and has been offering free public rituals and classes. We are a church that espouses a neo-pagan belief system presented within a Wiccan structure. The Wiccan Church of Canada was founded by Tamarra and Richard James in 1979 when the WCC received its corporate charter. Since that time the Wiccan Church of Canada has offered weekly services that are open to the general public. Weekly classes are also offered in the study of the faith. There is no fee or charge for either classes or ritual and no commitment to any belief system is required.
We are primarily based in the Odyssean tradition of Wicca, founded by Richard and Tamarra James, but also have some priesthood of other traditions active in the church.
Our goal is threefold:
• First , to assist practising Wiccans in achieving a spiritual balance that brings them into harmony with the Gods.
• Second , to bring to the non-Wiccan population an understanding that we are positive, reputable and life affirming religious and lifestyle alternative.
• Third, to achieve for Wiccans the same rights and freedoms enjoyed by other more mainstream religions.
As we begin to grow spiritually, we often find within ourselves patterns of thought and behaviour that restrict us and hinder our growth. Our spiritual counsellors and priesthood seek to help individualised counselling and guidance.
Our visitors will help to teach to fundamentals of Wiccan belief and practice by providing formal classes, informal discussion, and suggested reading lists.
The Canadian Constitution guarantees freedom of religious belief. One of our roles is to facilitate and advocate religious rights and freedoms for Wiccans and Pagans. The Wiccan Church of Canada is a member faith of the Ontario Provincial Interfaith Committee on Chaplaincy, and is in easy communication with all Ontario chaplains.
Religion involves many things, and to fully experience the beauty of one’s faith, the celebration of ritual is necessary. We seek to provide worship services to those Wiccans within government institutions, hospitals and homes for the aged.
One of the most difficult things facing a person who has been institutionalized is the problem of re-integration into mainstream society. The Wiccan Church of Canada seeks to provide community contact and support through letters and volunteer visitors. These people can serve to introduce a newly released individual to the Wiccan community and to provide a sense of community involvement prior to release. Aside from our institutional ministry, we also work to raise public awareness of Wicca. Our worship services are accessible to anyone who wishes to attend. We seek, through example, to dispel the negative preconceptions that Hollywood sensationalism has perpetrated upon our religion. We do not proselytize, but always hold ourselves prepared to answer questions from interested individuals. We welcome all to attend our classes and rituals. There are currently two temples operating, one on Toronto and one in Hamilton. We welcome all ages to attend our classes and rituals. Expect circles to be unique as we expand and deepen our relationship with the infinite aspects of Deity as manifested throughout the ancient world...be it Celtic, Roman or Greek, Egyptian among some classifications, or simply the Lord and Lady.
