Serpent Coven

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Dublin (Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown) , Ireland
Key Contact: Barbara Lee

Spiritual Path: Alexandrian Wicca
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Teaching Available

Group Overview: Serpent Coven is an Alexandrian Coven based in County Dublin. It is run by Barbara Lee a third degree High Priestess from the Farrar line, who was initiated in 1980 and has been running a coven since 1982, and her partner, who is a third degree High Priest by her hand.

The coven was founded at Lughnasadh 2004, with a strong mixture of neophytes and elders, all of whom had trained with Barbara previously.

Alexandrian Wicca is essentially on oathbound, initiatory, experiential, earth based fertility religion, whose Priests and Priestesses constitute a significant part of the hardest working element of the Western mystery tradition. For a more detailed description of Alexandrian Wicca please visit the “Pagan Traditions” page on this website.

As a coven working within an oathbound tradition we tend to keep a low profile most of the time, but are always open to hear from seekers who may be interested in joining our numbers, and exploring our path.

We meet on a fortnightly basis, celebrating the eight Sabbats and the phases of the Moon. We hold alternating Neophyte and Initiate only Esbat circles. Our Neophyte coven, Serpent Grove (also based in Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown) , is run separately from our Initiate coven, and is run by two of our coven elders. We also hold regular discussion meetings outside of the ritual calendar. Training is ongoing and we expect everyone to work from a point of self- motivation and direction.

Membership requirements are extremely high, with a good knowledge of the basics of witchcraft and magic being required beforehand, as well as approval from each member of the coven. Therefore, there is a long meet and greet process before being accepted and no application to join is guaranteed.

The following is an indication of what would be expected from an applicant: Basic knowledge of magical ethics and of how ritual works, familiarity with the history and mythology of deity, basic knowledge of the history of witchcraft and Wicca, familiarity with the basic books and authors of the Craft, basic knowledge of other spiritual paths, including the various pagan paths.

Successful seekers can expect to spend at least a year in our outer court, where they will be expected to follow a course of study, including practical and written work.

We appreciate that the path of the seeker can be a difficult one, and recommend that should you find a coven that you think is a good match for you, that you ask for the lineage of that coven's HIgh Priest and High Priestess. This should be freely given, and is common practice. We would also suggest that you contact their upline initiators where possible, there are so many covens of dubious lineage out there, so where possible check.

Contact with us can be made through the Serpent Coven website, email, or via the telephone number below. All enquiries will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

DISCLAIMER: Although it is flattering that on occasion other groups should wish to be mistaken for us, this is the only posting for our coven on Witchvox and we have no association whatsoever with, nor can we vouch for the integrity or veracity of any other coven presuming to use our name. We also recommend that should you seek entry to any Wiccan coven or coven claiming Alexandrian or Gardnerian lineage that you seek a vouch on one of the many online forums.
