Group Overview: Sacramento Pagan Unity Network, under another name, began as an email list in the summer of 2001 while in the midst of planning the Sacramento Pagan Pride Harvest Festival. I had attended the Festival the year before and had met many pagans since who had NO CLUE there was such an event and would have loved to have been there etc etc. I brought this up to the planning committee several times during the planning season, and with the group's blessing, I created the list SacramentoPaganPride. Its original purpose was for people to get information about the festival, link up for carpools, etc.
That was also the year I took on the job of Publicity Coordinator for the festival, and over the years have belonged to anywhere from 20-54 Northern California-specific email groups, spreading news of not just Pagan Pride events, but any other event that popped up on a list.
There is a need for Pagans and Witches to have a place to find each other, to get news of events, a place where solitary practitioners can be a part of a larger group without having to belong to an established coven. HOWEVER, the group of people that belong to the Yahoo Group have become a family, we have stuck together through some pretty hard times, we have yelled at each other, cried on each other's shoulders, planned and executed some wonderful festivals sabbats and gatherings together, just as if we ARE a coven family.
Recently, it was decided by the committee that we will no longer be affiliated with the Pagan Pride organization, due to ever-increasing rules and complications. In that spirit, I was asked to change the name of the group, and in a flash of brilliance, (15 seconds long) came up with the name Sacramento Pagan Unity Network.
It has already inspired one of our Southern members to branch off and create the Modesto Pagan Unity Network Yahoo Group, and so it begins. I had not considered that our twig might become a tree, but it is.
We invite you to join us, in perfect love and perfect trust, to pass on news of events and gatherings you hear of and generally share in the love of our family. Come on in!
We will continue to plan and host festivals and events in the future, and a website is forthcoming.
