We are a non-hierarchical, feminist, consensus-based teaching tradition dedicated to personal transformation and growth. Of Cynnara, the Goddess
Cynnara was a great woman of her people. She was intelligent, wise, beautiful and powerful. Her family and village loved her. Her reputation went before her, even up to Mount Olympus. The god Zeus, hearing of her, went down to earth. He watched her lead her people with love and wisdom. So impressed, He appeared to Cynnara and offered her the Divine gift. Cynnara agreed, for though she loved her people, she had learned all she could. Zeus took Cynnara to Mount Olympus. She was given the potion of Eternal Life, and welcomed into the Divine family.
Cynnara learned many secrets on the mountain, and began to see and know in a new way. She was learning the wisdom of the gods. Time passed. Filled with knowledge, Cynnara began to question: what could She do with this knowledge? What was the point of simply knowing? What should She do? She also missed her people terribly.
Cynnara snuck down to earth and visited Her village. Her people were glad to see Her, and She was overjoyed. She taught them some of the gods' wisdom, and then snuck back up to Mount Olympus.
Cynnara did this for some time, sneaking off to Her community, giving them tools and skills. Gradually, on earth, Her people began to grow. They grew so powerful that they could not be ignored, even by the gods. When Zeus heard what was happening on earth, He knew what had been done. Cynnara had disobeyed the laws of Mount Olympus.
Now, the gods, especially Zeus, can be vengeful, and if anyone recalls the story of Prometheus, one would expect revenge. Some say that Zeus became angry, but, actually, He was intrigued. He appreciated that She used Her own mind, and Her own heart, and He enjoyed seeing Her flout the laws of Olympus (something that He had done in the past.)
Zeus came to Cynnara and confronted Her about Her people. He told Her that She must distance Herself from Her people if She would remain Divine. But when told, Cynnara burst into tears at the thought of never visiting Her community again. She was unwilling to leave them. She insisted that there must be another way. Having seen Her passion and Her fortitude, he agreed that there was another way.
Zeus transformed Cynnara into an Artichoke. Still Divine, and ever-living, She was planted down in the earth. She carried Her wisdom and love in Her heart. She would grow and grow over time. She would watch over Her people through generations. She would sustain and nourish Her community, and lead others on the Path to Divinity.
