Temple of Inanna and Dumuzi

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: San Jose, California
Key Contact: Valerie Voigt

Spiritual Path: Sumerian SemiReconstructionist
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Legal Clergy... Teaching Available

Group Overview: The Temple of Inanna and Dumuzi is dedicated to the worship of Inanna and Dumuzi, who were first worshipped in ancient Sumer. We also honor other Deities of the Sumerian pantheon. In accordance with ancient Mesopotamian practice, we recognize and respect Deities of other pantheons as well, though our Temple rituals do not address them.

The Temple is the current incarnation of the Centre of the Divine Ishtar, which was established in the early 1980's as an Iseum of the Fellowship of Isis. The Temple is incorporated as a religious organization, but we do not yet have our 501 (c) (3) IRS tax-exemption paperwork completed.

The Temple's ritual format is derived from a combination of traditional Western occult practice with study of ancient history and texts, plus contact work. The Temple's clergy have about 40 years combined experience in service to Inanna and Dumuzi.

We are a worship and spiritual development organization rather than a magically-oriented group. Our ritual format is not based on a Circle, nor do we do magic in the usual sense that a Wiccan coven does. Our focus is on worship and on honoring the Deities. The rituals provide, for those who wish it, ways to attune with the Deities.

We welcome all persons of good will who are prepared to behave with courtesy, good manners, and respect for our etiquette.

We encourage (but do not require) those interested to study the ancient Sumerian hymns.

The Temple is partly Reconstructionist and partly creative. We gleefully accept donations, but those donations will not be tax-deductible until we receive our 501 (c) (3) status from the IRS. For the time being, however, we are putting most of our energy into our practice rather than into paperwork.
