Silver Horn Coven

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Fresno, California
Key Contact: Haniel

Spiritual Path: Alexandrian (British line)
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Legal Clergy... Teaching Available

Group Overview: The Silver Horn Coven is part of the Silvers line of Traditional Alexandrian covens and currently is the only vouched Alexandrian Coven in the Central Valley. We practice Wicca in a very British style, many of its members having undergone initiation and/or training in the UK. We often vacation in the UK to take students to meet and get to know other members of our Tradition, so if a reply to an inquiry is not quick, please be patient.

Ours is an initiatory, hierarchical, oath-bound mystery tradition which worships our God and Goddess. It is a priesthood that embraces all acts of love and joy as services to the Goddess, but it is also a demanding path that requires ruthless self-knowledge and the facing of the mirror of Self. It is a path that recognizes the beauty in nature even when she is red in tooth and claw and believes that we are neither a path of light nor a path of darkness, but rather a path of the wise that winds between the two.

It is not a path to be walked by everyone since Wicca (as we practice it) is first and foremost a priesthood and not a religion. Potential candidates must be well balanced adults who are willing and able to put aside what they think they know about the craft from the writings of popular authors if they are to seek our Mysteries. One must have a stable lifestyle, determination and a sense of humor to walk this path, for it is not for the weak of heart. Initiation changes an individual, it strips away those lingering falsehoods, known and unknown, that are a barrier between ourselves and the Gods.

Having said that, we welcome seekers; we are a training coven and have a duty to continue to initiate and instruct those students we perceive as called by our Gods. Please keep in mind, however, that we cannot initiate all who ask, for a variety of reasons. We will also try to help seekers find alternative contacts in the area, if we know of any. We also cannot initiate or teach minors of any age under ANY circumstances, even with parental permission: As stated above, we see Wicca as a Priesthood, not a religion, and believe one must have learned to live ones' own life before dedicating it to the Gods.

Please read the essay on the Alexandrian Tradition here on Witchvox to get a better idea of the tradition in general.

There are some who claim to be Alexandrian, Gardnerian or other British traditions who are not what they claim, either by their own deception or though the deception of those they had trusted before. Through our networking with other BTW we are usually able to assist in verification of those claiming to be Alexandrian, Gardnerian or most other types of British Traditional Wicca. The validity of any group claiming Alexandrian or Gardnerian lineage or influence can be quickly validated though the yahoo group, Amber and Jet (amberandjet@yahoogroups.com) and seekers are considered sensible and prudent if they research our group before asking about joining.

Even with the best research, we recommend that people show caution when meeting a potential teacher or group for the first time; do so in a public place and make sure a trusted friend knows where you are.

The Silver Horn Coven will be celebrating it's tenth anniversary in Fresno at the end of October this year.
