Group Overview: Protogrove of the Valley Oak, ADF saw its first sparks of life at Imbolc 2012 when four members of Sacramento's Sierra Madrone Grove, ADF gathered in a park in Santa Clara for ritual, and agreed to join together to bring ADF Druidry back to the Bay Area after an absence of several years. Our Grove Organizer's Survey (basically an application for permission to form a Protogrove) was submitted to Ár nDraíocht Féin the next day (6 February 2012) , and we received official ADF approval on 29 February 2012 (is that not an awesome, liminal birthdate for our group?! Love it!) .
We're officially based in San José, CA, but have members all over the SF Bay Area as well as other parts of Northern California. Our intentions for our Protogrove include celebrating eight public high days each year (our hearth being Celtic and Norse, we'll celebrate rituals for both pantheons) , and performing regularly scheduled community service supporting the folk AND the land. We also have a multitude of ideas for frequent activities ranging from educational to spiritual to social, and sometimes all three together. *Financial note* As a Protogrove of Ár nDraíocht Féin (basically a probationary Grove) , we are not required by ADF regulations to file for tax exempt status under their umbrella at this point. However, once we have progressed and grown and are ready to request a Provisional Grove Charter, then we will do so. Until that day, while there will be a donation can handy at rituals in case you should feel moved to donate toward ritual expenses, internet costs, and such, we will not ask you for money.
