WHAT IS ROMAN ANCESTRAL HOME WORSHIP VS HIGH ROMAN WORSHIP?
There are two types of Roman religious rituals 1) Temple Rites 2) Home Worship The first one is the most commonly recognized and preformed of the two. The Roman Catholic church was heavily influenced by the structure of this type of rites (hence most people do not like the Roman hearth culture) . The official religion of Rome was the "Religio Romana" which was literally the religion of the state. The ancient Romans believed that "Rome" (The empire) was a living entity which needed the gods help to succeed and prosper. The temples you see in Europe were not for the people but for there entity that was Rome. The priest that ran the temples numbered as few as three to as many as twenty. The public (lower class citizens) were bared from entering the temples and practiced their spirituality at home (See below) . The typical Roman ritual would last anywhere from ten minutes to no more then forty-five minutes since the rituals main focus was offerings and invocations. The ADF rites that I attached run anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half which makes these rites not at all like the original rites. The second type is how most ancients Romans worship (least practiced today) Home Worship. The Romans were very big on the family and view it as sacred, as such the whole religion was based on the household. Ancestors were considered a key element in their household rituals.
Ar nDraocht Finn (ADF)
ADF is an international fellowship devoted to creating a public tradition of Neopagan Druidry. Though we do not consider ourselves "Re-constructionists" -- we do believe in the importance of scholarship. Through the on-going study and discussion of archeology, history, and comparative mythology we have developed methods of worship that we believe our Paleopagan ancestors would recognize and respect as akin to their own. The Shining Ones, the Ancestors, and the Nature Spirits deserve the very best that we can give them, so we encourage our members to pair their study and critical thinking skills with the pursuit of creative and artistic excellence.
