Temple of Ra
Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: San Francisco, California
Key Contact: Richard
Spiritual Path: Egyptian Reconstructionist
Status: Established Group
Community Support: None Offered

Group Overview: We are a temple dedicated to celebrating the authentic rituals of ancient Egypt based on academic research. We meet for ritual, study, and fellowship once each month. All members take an active and equal part in our rituals. Since we meet once a month, we celebrate 12 different rituals in line with the ancient Egyptian sacred calendar. In addition to rituals for Ra, we also regularly celebrate similar rites for Sekhmet, Djehuty (Thoth) , Setekh (Set) , Ausir (Osiris) , Aset (Isis) , Sebek, Wepwawet, Neith, Heru (Horus) , as well as ancient magical rites aimed at building up and maintaining ma'at (i.e., justice, balance, goodness, and peace) . We regard the building up of our temple to require that we research, study, and adapt the magical rites of ancient Egypt for the modern world. Such rituals may be for the needs of specific individuals but they are also for the the victory of ma'at over the forces of evil that work to suppress goodness and fairness for humankind. Governance of the Temple: In ancient times temples were governed in their day-to-day operation by councils of servant-priests. Today we try to emulate that method of decision-making. As a consequence, decisions are arrived at by consensus. We ask that members prioritize participation in our temple's activities. Those interested in joining the Temple of Ra will be asked to read a small selection of books under the supervision of the moderator or another member, as well as take on homework assignments aimed at assisting the applicant in understanding the ancient Egyptian spiritual vision. Individuals are encouraged to study at their own pace and will meet periodically with the moderator to answer questions and prepare for full admission into the Temple of Ra. We do not ask people to give up their other spiritual interests. Richard Reidy, moderator for the Temple of Ra and author of Eternal Egypt: Ancient Rituals for the Modern World ( (see amazon.com listing) , invites questions from interested parties. Please email him at rjreidy@hotmail.com.
