Flame of Brighid

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: New Milford, CT, Connecticut
Key Contact: Liz Guerra

Spiritual Path: Irish Spirituality
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Legal Clergy...

Group Overview: Flame of Brighid was born from an existing coven called The Temple of Bast, which had been established in May 1996. I had been the High Priestess of The Temple of Bast since its inception. On one of my many trips to Ireland in October 2005, I had met with Sister Mary Minehan of the Brigidine Order in Kildare. She spoke to me about St. Brigid and her many attributes and fully acknowledged that St. Brigid has always been the Goddess Brighid that was held in the highest regard in Pagan Ireland. I found it very interesting that a Catholic Nun was speaking about St. Brigid yet fully embracing the fact that she's always been a Goddess. But I would soon realize that Sister Mary is no ordinary nun. I thought I had known about Brighid, but as Sister Mary spoke, I really listened and truly believe that it was the Goddess who was actually speaking. That's the moment I realized that my path needed to change. I decided to devote my life to honoring Brighid, my beloved Patron.

On another trip to Kildare in October 2006, after spending time with Sister Mary, Mark, another member of the group, became spiritually awakened and he too heard the Goddess speak through this inspiring Nun. This was the affirmation I needed to move forward.

The Temple of Bast was closed and most of the members joined myself and Mark in this new found path. The Flame of Brighid was born but we did not have our official dedication until August 2007.

As we all continue to learn and grow spiritually, our paths can change and lead us down different avenues. My experience has been no different. Flame of Brighid is a Grove dedicated to the Goddess and whose focus is on Irish Paganism. Wicca is no longer a path that we follow. Although we are very grateful for our roots and foundation in Wicca, we find it necessary to expand our horizons and answer the call I first heard in 2005.
