Group Overview: The Circle of the Spirit Tree (COTST) is an open eclectic Wiccan coven formed in the Bloomington, IL area in June of 2007, by Gregory Brewer, Rachel Forbes, and Joshua Carey. The group started off as a side project of the Spirit Shrine Association, another pagan group in the area, and then consolidated into what is now known as the Circle of the Spirit Tree.
The coven was formed to give a more structured training for priests and priestesses of the Wiccan faith, with each lesson being able to be easily fit into any Wiccan Tradition, also to help to form and nurture bonds of friendship and family. The education system follows a five tier degree system starting with Initiate Degree, which gives your beginner lessons and starts you on the path of learning with the basic foundation. Earth Degree focuses on the mundane and earth element. Fire Degree helps people to learn how to handle a fire, and also how to work with the inner fire and work your passions in a healthy manor, by working through creative expression. Air degree works more with the element of Air and deals with the scholarly study of the craft, and of the religion of Wicca, while working with the Air element. Water degree helps us to learn to be empathic, and learn about the element of water. The degree works with such topics as empathy, emotion, potion making, etc. Finally after Water degree, we have the Third Degree, advanced lessons for those that have completed the education system.
The Circle of the Spirit Tree is governed by a Council of Elders all of the Third Degree, help to keep the group on track. Discuss any needed changes or concerns expressed by members of the group. Plan occasional events, and making any special arrangements for the group.
We are an in person group meeting in the home of some of the members, we do not offer online classes or correspondence classes.
