Spiral Dance Book Group

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Nashville, Indiana
Key Contact: Sara Flux

Spiritual Path: Reclaiming/Eclectic Witchcraft
Status: Group Forming
Community Support: None Offered

Group Overview: This group is working with Starhawk’s classic of modern paganism, The Spiral Dance, to discover witchcraft as a tool for empowering ourselves and others as we embrace the wild and divine within.

This group is intended to help new witches grow in their craft. This group is also intended as a space for building community. We welcome established witches with their insight and experience as well as those who are unsure whether or not witch is a word that describes them. This group strives to be a safe space free of racism, sexism, heterosexism, cissexism, ableism, xenophobia, body-shaming, anti-Semitism, Islamaphobia, and ageism.

Don't worry about reading the book out of order or coming to a discussion meeting without finishing the reading or exercises. We all have things going on and it is not a big deal. It's more important to us just to have you there.

We are reading Spiral Dance in bite-sized chunks to allow the bulk of our time between meeting to be spent practicing the exercises from the book. We recognize experience is key to developing our craft; our goal is to experience magic, not just read about it. One portion of the meeting will be devoted to discussing the content of the chapter, another to discussing our personal experiences with the exercises, and another to practicing group exercises from the chapter.

If possible please make sure you have at least the 10th anniversary edition of Spiral Dance, and please read the notes from 10 years later along with the original text of the book. It is important because there is some gender essentialism in the original text that Starhawk comes around on in the notes.

We meet one Tuesday a month at 6:30PM. Dates for our next two meetings are October 17th and November 21st. You can stay updated on events by joining our Facebook group. This book group is open to individuals from all surrounding areas, including but not limited to Bloomington, Columbus, and Indianapolis.
