Group Overview: The First Kingdom Church of Asphodel is a an eclectic polytheistic group, based in Central MA. We hold open seasonal holiday rituals at Cauldron Farm in Hubbardston, MA, and have camping events for Beltane and Labor Day Weekend. We offer low-cost ($5) classes on a range of topics.
We are enthusiastic and devout polytheists, with heretical reconstructionist tendancies. Our focus is on honoring the gods, not on the practice of magic, development of psychic skills, or the precise reenactment of ancient practices. We are not a Wiccan group, and do not require (or offer) initiation or oath-bound secret practices.
We encourage folks to develop a personal devotional relationship with whichever gods that speak to them. Holiday rituals tend to focus on one or two deities from a specific cultural tradition, and are generally led by individuals who work primarily within that cultural tradition.
Our rituals are outdoors in all but the worst weather, in a dedicated ritual field the private woods behind Cauldron Farm. We have a small circle of standing stones, a labyrinth, and fire pit. Folks are welcome to visit the space for private rituals or spiritual retreats, but they must call the folks at Cauldron Farm first (978-928-4198) .
Our holiday rituals and nearly all of our classes and events are open to the public. Children are generally welcome, though parents should contact us before bringing kids to our Samhain and Mabon rituals. We welcome all folks regardless of their beliefs, just so long as they behave respectfully. We are a very GLBT friendly group. We do our best to accomodate folks with disabilities of various kinds. We welcome mystics, spirit-workers, and the chronically god-bothered, as well as folks who are just starting to explore their relationship with the Pagan gods, or whose primary spiritual alliance is to another religion.
Membership is free, after having attended three events, but not required for full participation in rituals.
We have a small choir which meets in Worcester on Thursday evenings, and sings at our holiday rituals. It is open to folks at all levels of skill and experience in singing.
