Group Overview: We are the Pagan Living And Collaborative Education Society at UMass Dartmouth. The group was founded in September of 2008 by Bettina Benoit, a Celtic Pagan. Co-founders of the group are Shilah Marshman- a Wiccan, Zachary Nicastro- an Asatru Kindred, and Taeler Conrad- a Pagan/Buddhist.
The group is open to everyone of all faiths although the main focus is Pagan beliefs, history, and theology. We are always looking for new members who are interested in becoming Pagan and studying or learning about our religious paths.
Together as a group we hold weekly meetings, Wednesday nights at 7:00 in our campus center. We also hold rituals/circles and get-togethers for the Sabbats during the school year as well as the occasional full and new moon. We have also done other circles together as a learning tool for our newer Pagan members. We do not consider the group a coven however and no one in our group is obligated to participate in a ritual or meditation circle. We are currently working on projects for the current semester that include forming an alliance with the other religious groups on campus to promote diversity and tolerance. We are also planning a visit to Salem, Massachusetts and our regional Pagan Pride events.
Our members who are new to Paganism as well as those of us who have practiced for years are always learning together through books, guests at our meetings, rituals, and lectures and presentation that we take turns preparing for the group each week. We have gotten positive feedback from some of the faculty and staff who have participated in our circles and have gained a lot of support throughout the campus.
We hope to see some new faces at our meetings from outside the campus as we are hoping to branch off into the Dartmouth community. We are a strong group and have become tightly knit friends...
