Group Overview: The Circle of the Sacred Edge is a small circle of Eclectic Wiccans who honor both the Goddess and God, as well as specific matron and patron Deities. We have worked together privately since 2006. There are currently 3 active members and one student.

We are non-hierarchical, but the more experienced members are active in teaching the less experienced. In the Circle of the Sacred Edge we are closer than just friends but are more like a family. We plan on practicing until we can’t anymore, raising little pagan families together, and being there for each other both in this life and the following ones. In order to do this, we have to maintain a focus on our goals of open and healthy communication, a continual focus on individual and group growth, respect for each other and ourselves, and warm and cohesive relationships within the group.

Our long-term goals are to become more active in the community. We are currently accepting students, but only if the intention is to join the circle. Time constraints have caused us to put teaching without the intention of joining on hold for the time being. However, this doesn't mean that one of us will meet you and then immediately you can join the circle. We're small and close and so we want to make sure everyone is comfortable before moving into group workings. This goes both ways, as we want everyone who works with us to feel comfortable with us and prepared for working in a circle. Not everyone works in every circle. Group magick can bring people together AND can highlight tensions like nothing else can. It's important that the people working together can trust each other to communicate effectively and have the best interests of everyone at heart. Determining this takes time and a getting to know one another phase. Training time will depend on the experience of those interested.

What you can expect from requests to join most of the time:

After connecting via email, a senior member will meet with interested folks for an interview at a public place, like a coffee house or cafe. If we both feel comfortable and if the group sounds like something you'd be interested in participating in, then we set a time for one on one training.

The first training is just a sit down session to determine both your knowledge and to discuss the basic tenets, symbols, and beliefs structures of Wicca and the importance of ritual for interacting with the forces of the universe and the Divine. This will also be when we flesh out our tradition, which we've previously discussed in the interview.

After that, we meet in a private home, usually that of a senior member, and we do a walk through of a ritual and raising energy. This will also vary depending on knowledge level and any weak areas we might sense. For example, some people need help with feeling and manipulating energy. Some with evoking and invoking and working with gods, goddesses, guides, and elementals. Others require assistance with using the voice to raise energy. And so forth.

After that, you meet the rest of the circle and will be invited to a ritual. Usually, the initial training period doesn't take more than 3 weeks if you can meet once a week. After that, training will be more informal and tailored to your interests and to the rituals we are currently doing. Part of training (and just being a member) includes ritual planning sessions in which we plan out and write rituals. Some work on rituals we do remotely, usually via Google Drive. There will be some rituals that new members are assigned to do most of the work on so you can learn how ritual creation and practice connect.

We are definitely a learn-as-you-go type group. There will be ongoing discussions of rituals, techniques, and philosophy. All members have input and if someone is interested in exploring something in a ritual, we're generally happy to facilitate that. As long as it harms none.

Also, I need to add an addendum for experienced practitioners interested in joining. We definitely want new perspectives and their won’t be a training period, per se, but there will be a getting-to-know-each-other phase where we can all decide whether it’s a good fit.

I hope this clears up any confusion and, if you read this before contacting me, there won’t be any surprises.

Blessed Be,
