Group Overview: The Owl's Well is a community-centered organization committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for honest seekers of spirituality. Our purpose is to provide a nurturing, educational and spiritual experience as a Pagan religious community. Through discussions, open rituals, and other events it is our aim to provide opportunities for seekers to learn and grow with and through one another. We believe that everyone has something to teach and everyone has something to learn.
The Owl’s Well was formed in Saint Louis, Missouri by Ashara Mayim Faolan and Andrew Blake LeFey in December 2013 with the idea that we are each our own priest and priestess, our own teacher and student. They were drawn to the symbol of the owl for its associations with wisdom, magic and cleansing the stagnant to make room to cultivate new growth in our lives. The well is symbolic for the central building blocks of a community. In ancient times the well was the sacred center that held the waters of life and the sustenance of the community. In the Owl’s Well, the knowledge and wisdom of our members is what helps sustain us; it is through one another that we grow and learn.
Our events include:
Witches of the Round Table: One person leads the group in a night of questions on a specific topic. All participants are welcomed and encouraged to share their own views on the subject. We hold round-tables every other month. Through the use of video chat we welcome members from abroad.
Practicums: Five times a year we hold practicums where we apply our knowledge and talents into activities for everyone who attends. Practicums combine social interaction with practical applications of magical skills and talents.
Planning meetings and rituals: We hold open planning meetings three weeks before scheduled rituals. Attendance is open to everyone. Each ritual is a collaborative effort and is a beautiful and unique experience. We hold special events at select rituals, such as our Midsummer Pool Party and Samhain Masquerade. Our rituals are always open and free.
Owl Owtings: This is an opportunity for local Owl’s Well members to spend time together just having fun and getting to know one another. Past Owtings included Soulard Farmer’s Market, the Butterfly House, and various gem and crystal shows in the area.
101 Classes: A series of classes written and presented by Owl’s Well members. Recent classes include Circle Casting, Spirit Guides and Quarter Calls.
Dumb Supper: Once a year around Samhain we hold a sacred ritual: The Owl’s Well Dumb Supper. This is a formal dinner setting in which we observe ritual silence and commune with the spirits of loved ones who have already crossed the veil. It is a beautiful and powerful experience for all. The Dumb Supper is open to the public, but we can only accommodate a limited number of attendees.
Full Moon Esbats: In 2017 we launched our Lunar series. This is a series of full moon rituals intended to honor the Goddess. One person from our community volunteers to lead the ritual. It is available via video chat, making it possible for our members abroad to be a part of the ritual and to perform it themselves as well.
Community Values: When it comes to keeping our community “a safe and welcoming environment” we ask that all participants in our group and to any of our events observe our community values. These are a list of eight traits that help foster the sense of community that we strive to embody. These are communication, empathy, teamwork, spirituality, contribution to community, diversity, and willingness to change.
