Group Overview: Is Hecate's Cauldron a Coven or Witches' Circle?
Hecate's Cauldron is a Witches' Circle and has just celebrated their five year anniversary! We are not a coven so people of all traditions are welcome ... it is our goal to bring witch's and interested pagans together for Wheel of the Year celebrations so that we may build strength in our numbers and community presence. While it is NOT our goal to subvert small groups/covens, we realize that if pagans always remain segmented, we will never have an impact on our larger geographical communities. Better than most, pagans know that the more people holding the same intention, the stronger the resonance in the Universe!
What is your Tradition?
Hecate's Cauldron does firmly ground its educational and ritual foundation in the Temple of Witchcraft tradition, founded by Christopher Penczak (www.christopherpenczak.com or www.templeofwitchcraft.org) . Though we hold a high level of well-earned respect for Mr. Penczak, we train in, and teach, the Temple Traditon because its philosophy and practices are ecclectic and inclusive, and because it provides a credible vehicle for learning and delving more deeply into Occult Mysteries. Furthermore, it is important to create a common language amongst ourselves as a community, and because the Temple Tradition is so inclusive, its teachings provide the perfect "common language" for a multi-tradition circle. All who are interested in studying with us may apply, and information on our classes is listed under the Witchvox "Events" page.
Does Hecate's Cauldron have Ordained Clergy?
Is Hecate's Cauldron a real and active in-person community, and what is the focus of its activity?
The Hecate's Cauldron community celebrates Sabbats, we offer year and a day classes of the Temple of Witchcraft Mystery school - Witchcraft 1, 2, and 3, we host regular, in-person social opportunities, we have a formal healing circle of dedicated witches, we have an active Women's group, a Men's group, we have a family support group called the Pagan Family Alliance, we have a growing library available to our members, we provide Rites of Passage, AND as an organization, we collect donations for two very important charitable programs in Jackson - we donate as a witch organization not only to support needy and deserving charitable organizations, but also in hopes of creating a more pagan-friendly environment through education and exposure to what it is we really believe and practice as a spiritual culture. Ignorance of witchcraft is both unfortunate and often still quite prevalent in our state, and ignorance breeds fear. Especially through our educational efforts, we hope to increase growth, resources, and support for MS pagans, and enlighten its greater, non-pagan community. While we appreciate that there are those with unavoidable limitations, we strongly desire strong, focused members who will do more than just chat on Facebook.
If I become a member of Hecate's Cauldron, can I lead Sabbats and classes?
We find ego and commercialism in spiritual pursuits offensive and endeavor to avoid this type behavior as a community. However, we are a "meritocrasy." This means that those who have the objective Temple of Witchcraft education, skills and experience level, and who are willing to roll up their sleeves, make a commitment to their own education and the work of HC are the ones who drive the function of HC! This does not mean everyone must have the same level of commitment, but that our High Priestesses, High Priests, and project leaders MUST.
I want to be sure that my privacy will be respected and I am concerned about participating in open circles for fear of possible social reprisal. Do I need to be concerned about being publicly exposed if I participate in HC's local activities?
While we all hope for the day when Pagans and Witches can be as open with their spiritual path as our Christian friends, we are realists, and we aggressively work to protect those who prefer to, or who must, remain in the proverbial broom closet by taking several precautions. First and foremost, we screen potential members by holding regularly scheduled Meet n' Greets for the very purpose of making sure everyone who petitions us for membership is a good fit for our community before admitting them. It also gives prospective members a chance to interact with us and determine whether or not we are what they are looking for in a community. If our meeting seems agreeable to everyone, petitioners will be invited to participate in a Sabbat gathering. If that goes well, and it becomes clear that you desire an active role in HC, we will add you, officially, as a member. Please be patient with us while we get to know each other! We realize no one group is for everyone, and are not offended by those who choose not to join in our community!
Hecate's Cauldron of Mississippi has only a few threshold requirements for its members:
1) All participants are expected to come to us in a posture of "harm none." Harm is defined as intentions of harm or discord manifested and evidenced by words, actions and/or deeds.
2) all members must be at least 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or guardian.
3) No participant who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs may enter the Circle or participate in classes.
These rules are in place for the best interest of, and to protect, all members of our community!
