The Coiled Thicket (eclectic)

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Key Contact: Fen Alraun

Spiritual Path: Gala Tradition for Gay Men
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Teaching Available

Group Overview: We are a coven of gay male witches exploring together the life lessons of magick and witchcraft. We meet in person once per month for an Esbat, discussion and fellowship. Coveners are encouraged to travel their own magickal journey, explore techniques at their own speed, then share knowledge or explore questions at the meetings. Though there is a coven priest to provide guidance, keep the rituals unified and organize events, there is no single teacher; all coveners learn from each other the mysteries we are discovering.

The nature of our tradition is focused specifically on supporting the development of gay men to reclaim their ancient role as mystics and witches. We embrace the balance of the Divine Male and Female, but we emphasize in our studies those myths that help gay men to experience the sacred power unique to them. We explore lessons hidden in the myths of gay male deities, many of which have been obscured. We strive to address those particular developmental issues or spiritual blockages that are unique to the gay man by providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. Over time, our coveners grow away from the shallowness and isolation that many find in the contemporary gay community to become spiritually adept men that are more caring of themselves and their gay community and more secure in their own witch powers.

Our coven is one of several around the country in a growing tradition with a unifying book of shadows that permits each coven to develop it's own uniqueness and style. Further information can be explored in the book "Garbed in Green, " available on Amazon.

Currently, the coven has reached its maximum complement, so we are not taking new students at this time. There may be other options, depending on your conditions. You should be physically male, self-identifying as gay and over 21 years of age. Feel free to inquire.
