Cathedral of Pines Pagan Garden Project

Group Overview: This group consists of individuals dedicated to creating a pagan area in the Cathedral of the Pines, an interfaith area in Rindge NH.

In the early ninties Wiccan HP Diane Des Rochers of the Apple Moon Coven campaigned for years to get the organizers to admit that their Mission of interfaith understanding included pagans, not just varieties of Peoples of the Book. In the intervening years their governing body has embraced that goal- but the area given to the pagans was neglected, and further damaged, with the rest of the Cathedral, in the 2008 Ice Storm.
We have come together in this project to clear, and nurture and plant an area that will be a place where all pagans can gather and worship and all faiths can visit and be shown the positive face of pagan activity.
As with most gardening activity, the earliest work consists of digging in manure and carrying away the unwanted stuff, but eventually we hope to see paths lined with healing herbs, benches, perhaps a labyrinth, sacred trees, an altar, etc. That vision is years in the future.
More immediately, we can create bonds of friendship and shared goals between Wiccans, Druids, Heathen and all types of pagans. We can work together without worrying about differences in our traditions, but only the work healing the land, creating a place to teach the rest of the world about our healing knowledge, and heal our understanding of each others groups, creating a small unity of purpose within the huge diversity that is Paganism.
This project has been put into abeyance for now. We encourage everyone to go to the Cathedral and enjoy it, but after clearing the area and designing the garden, we weren't able to get enough bodies out to dig and move rocks and do the site preparation. Lyrion and Raven scattered various flower and healing herb seeds over the site in September, and someday we may have our own garden there, but not this year. Thanks for those who did support it.
