Nine Roses Coven New England
Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Exeter, New Hampshire
Key Contact: Gretchen Alvarez
Spiritual Path: Neo-Gardnerian Ecclectic
Status: Group Forming
Community Support: Open Circles... Legal Clergy...

Group Overview: Nine Roses embraces an eclectic path taking coveners through the degree steps. We Wicca identify but also incorporate traditions from other spiritual paths. Coveners take seriously vows to the Goddess and God, the earth, the community, and our self, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously. So it should go without saying we are somewhat irreverent and believe in Mirth and Reverence, heavy on the Mirth. But always Respect.
Nine Roses is active in the pagan community both locally and at large. In addition to holding regular Esbat and Sabbats rituals, Nine Roses also holds Meet & Greets and other events. We participate in Pagan Pride Day events in Lawrence, Kansas and Manchester, New Hampshire, and open rituals or events sponsored by other covens and groups, or, as with Three Gates Gathering at Camp Gaea in the Kansas City area, host events with other covens. Nine Roses also tries to have a presence at national festivals such as Heartland Pagan Festival, also at Camp Gaea; Dragonfest in Denver, Colorado; and Pagan Spirit Gathering (PSG) , wherever determined to be held. Nine Roses also has a tradition of philanthropy with coveners participating as individuals or in group efforts, or our fundraising arm, Clan Chaos. We’ve raised funds for organizations such as the Heartland Spiritual Alliance, Humane Society, American Red Cross, the Haitian Earthquake Fund to name a few.
Nine Roses took root in 2000 in Lawrence, Kansas, when local solitary witches Kerry and Gretchen had the great fortune of meeting Denver transplants, Rhiannon and George, awesome people and Third Degree Gardnerian Priestess and Priest. We became friends, started holding rituals on the Esbats and Sabbats, and decided to form a coven. While on the porch enjoying a cigar before our inaugural ritual in 2002, George saw nine budding roses on a climbing bush and Nine Roses Coven was born. Nine has significance in that is it the number of the Goddess, there are four directions and five elements (=9) , the nine Muses, etc.
Nine Roses grew from those four people to over fifteen dedicated members with friends of the coven regularly in attendance however changes abound in 2011. George transitioned from this plane of existence August 25th, two days after his 59th birthday. Then Gretchen moved to Exeter in November. Life coexists with loss and Nine Roses still blooms after the loss of George and Gretchen. Gretchen started a chapter in Exeter, which currently has five dedicated members as well as friends in attendance. Nine Roses has a presence in Denver though not an active coven, yet. We have a good vibe in Nine Roses and we are hoping to share our tradition.
If you are interested, please contact me and we can arrange a time to talk.
Blessed Be, Gretchen, HPSx3
