Group Overview: We are the Cauldron of Awen.
Awen is a Welsh word that literally means divine inspiration. It is the substance that fills the cauldron of inspiration referred to by the bards. Awen is the flow of spirit, the essence of life in motion. Awen is the focus of the deep inner quest; it is what we all seek as we move through life. Attained, it brings fire in the head, poetic frenzy, lust for breath, complete purpose in perfect serenity.
We are a group of witches with very diverse spiritual backgrounds. Our leaders have had extensive training and experiences in postGardnerian Wicca, Feri/Morningstar, Reclaiming, Taoism, and shamanism. We value this diversity. While our ritual structure is essentially Wiccan, we use all of these influences in our ritual and magical practice.
We believe that each of us finds the divine within and around us through connection to the immanent spirit of nature and through direct experience as revealed to us during ritual practice. Each of us has an individual relationship to our own divinity and to our experience of the numinous which the coven recognizes and respects.
Our group is led by a two experienced Witches, one male and one female. Other coven members develop an increasing voice in group choices as they reach sufficient understanding of the group’s practice and philosophy. Most decisions are made by the coven in council. Final authority over the group’s philosophy, overall direction, and membership rests with the leaders.
We value the familial and communal support of the coven, and expect our members to take an active part in the ongoing life of the coven and its members. We choose to live a lifestyle close to the earth, its creatures, and its cycles. We believe that the natural world provides one of the most powerful channels to our experience of the immanent divine, and as such we value practices such as gardening, farming, connecting with animals, and outdoor ritual. As witches we are all healers and artisans to varying degrees, and practices which allow us to exercise these creative talents are encouraged and supported.
We believe in the necessity of incorporating our spirituality into the daily conduct of our lives. Members of the Cauldron of Awen are expected to have active ongoing personal practices which meet their individual spiritual needs and to express the core beliefs of witches consistently through their decisions, choices, and actions. The coven in council shares responsibility for upholding the integrity of the group’s ethics and practices.
We rotate responsibility for the design and leadership of rituals. We meet for the Sabbats and Full Moons, reserving New Moon work for individual practice or special rituals which require the New Moon energies. We meet as close to the celestial time/date of these events as possible as we believe the energies of the actual events are necessary to these rites.
Cauldron of Awen's leaders have a long history of active involvement in pagan organizations and events as well as service to the broader local community. We value service as an important part of our spiritual practice, and our members can expect to take part in these activities both individually and as a member of the group.
We are a teaching coven, and we offer open rituals regularly to allow interested persons to experience Wiccan practice. We are prepared to dedicate students and offer training to the level of fully qualified Wiccan clergy (aka Third Degree initiation) . Responsibility for curriculum, teaching, and counseling of dedicants and those studying for initiation is shared by the coven leaders.
Here is a list of our open events in 2015:
Brighid's Workshop January 17th from 2pm to 6pm ($5 materials fee)
Join us as we share some of our knowledge and crafts around Brighid. She is the goddess associated the most with Imbolc which is observed on February 1st. We will be making special bread and cheese and making Bighid's crosses. I make one every year and then during Imbolc use it to renew the one in my home. To me, it marks the anticipation of spring and the passing of the darkness of winter. If you are interested please let me know and I will send details of place and directions.
Imbolc/Full Moon Ritual February 3rd 7pm
We will be celebrating the Sabbath of Imbolc and the Full Moon together. All are welcome to join us. We will be honoring the first signs of spring and Brighid who is our mother during this time. The Full Moon will add extra potency to our work.
Please contact me if you wish to participate and I will send details of place and directions.
Full Moon Ritual April 3rd 7:30pm
Join us for a full moon ritual on this night. Please let me know if you want to attend and I will send details of place and directions
Discussion of Deity and Divinity and some shared food (also known as a potluck) April 12 at 5pm
We all have something to share about our experiences of and with gods and goddess. What does it mean to touch our own divinity? Who are the gods and goddesses? What is our understanding of the myths and archetypes around divinity All are welcome to participate. Again, let me know and I will send details.
