Spiritual Path: Eclectic Witchcraft
Status: Established Group

Group Overview: Established in 2005 the Coven of the Rising Phoenix (COTRP) was created to serve as an eclectic teaching and working coven. Over the years the COTRP has been honored to be the home of many people who were searching for a fuller experience of the Divine. Although we have undergone many changes over the years the one thing that remains constant is our commitment to providing a coven environment that is structured enough to allow for a unified group mind and family experience, while at the same time encouraging individual growth, understanding and expression.

As a teaching coven the COTRP provides a variety of training programs that are designed to challenge each of us to more fully develop ourselves spiritually, emotionally and magickally. For those who are new to our group, and perhaps to the Craft itself, we provide The Spiral Path. This is an introductory level training program that was developed by the coven’s founders. All members of the COTRP are required to complete this training. The Spiral Path provides a very good foundation in the basic beliefs and practice of the Craft and helps to begin integrating new members into the COTRP group mind.

As a working coven, the COTRP also gathers together to celebrate Sabbats and Esbats. The day and time of these gatherings will vary, and we will make every effort to choose a time that accommodates everyone’s schedule. Participation in each of these gatherings is not mandatory, however members are expected to attend as many of them as possible. These rituals will further aide us in the goal of creating a group mind, and are essential to our overall success.

Although many of our members are Wiccan, and many parts of our rituals utilize our interpretation of a Wiccan structure, it is important to note that we do not define ourselves as a Wiccan Coven. We are an Eclectic Coven who incorporates our traditions into our rituals and classes. We do not expect, and certainly do not require, anyone to take the title of “Wiccan” in order to fully participate in our Coven family.

The COTRP is divided essentially into two levels. The Outer Circle is designed to be primarily for those who are seeking to learn more about the Craft in general, and the COTRP in particular. Individuals who are accepted into the outer circle will receive training and be encouraged to observe the Sabbat and Esbat rites with us. Individuals who join the outer circle should expect to spend at least a year and day, which is the traditional training period, to learn, grow, and evaluate the COTRP before applying for membership into the Inner Circle.

The outer circle serves two purposes. It gives the member an opportunity to evaluate the COTRP and determine if they wish to pursue further membership. It also allows the COTRP an opportunity to evaluate the individual, and determine if they would be a good fit for further membership.

The Inner Circle is the more “formal” coven membership, and is composed of those members who have successfully completed the requirements of outer circle membership, have applied to join the Inner Circle, and have been accepted into it. Just as with most physical training covens, this is reserved for those who have proven their dedication to the Craft, and the COTRP in particular.

The COTRP functions as both a physical and virtual Coven. Whenever possible participants are encouraged to come together in a physical location to celebrate the rituals and attend classes. Those who are not close enough to come together with other Coven members will join us virtually through Oovoo. Each participant in the Coven is required to have a webcam, internet connection and Oovoo account. Whenever we have a group event (be those classes or rituals) we will all join together virtually so we can share the experience.

If you are interested in applying for membership into the COTRP please review the Recognized Titles, Coven Practices and Laws & Rules pages first. Then, if you feel that the COTRP may be the right Coven home for you, please complete and submit the Application for Membership.
