Druid Order of the Sacred Grove

Located in: Las Vegas, Nevada
Key Contact: Jaron McLlyr

Spiritual Path: Reconstructionist Druidism
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Legal Clergy... Teaching Available

Group Overview: Greetings

Thank you for your interest in the Druid Order of the Sacred Grove. Let me start by giving you some information about the grove.

We are currently accepting new members to join us in studying the Druid path. We are a traditionalist Order, and the course of study takes on average 10 to 15 years before a member is ordained as a druid. We are currently incorporated as a not for profit corporation in Nevada, and are working towards our 501c (3) tax exemption.

The Druid Order of the Sacred Grove was founded on Beltane, May 1st, 2003, by Jaron McLlyr in Las Vegas, Nevada along traditional Druidic lines. According to the “Great Charter” of the Order, it exists “to revive and rediscover the Druidic mysteries, further the Druidic communities and provide a safe and nurturing environment for its members; based in the teachings and wisdom of the Celtic Reconstruction.”
As an “Order, ” it follows more structured lines than most other types of Pagan group. It is administered by the Founding Grove Council headed by the Keeper of the Sacred Oak Bard Ollaire Rose Wolfbane, the Keeper of the Sacred Well Bard Ollaire Airmid McLlyr and the Keeper of the Sacred Flame Arch Druid Jaron McLlyr. An Ordination Board oversees the training and ordination of the state recognized clergy. The Druidic College Board directs the educational program and sets criteria for advancement. Nemeton Sanctuary oversees the networking, ministry and outreach programs.

The Las Vegas Grove was the first grove chartered by the Order on May 1st, 2003. Its original membership of five quickly doubled and continues to grow. All future groves in the Order shall adopt and follow the well-defined Order By-laws and Liturgy. Emphasis is placed on both community and individual paths of learning and spiritual discovery, and every effort is made to facilitate these efforts. A grove library will be established to help members in their studies.

Members meet regularly, usually on Sunday evenings for classes, and the four Festivals (for celebration) . Attendance is strongly emphasized as essential to both grove and individual development. Tutorials are generally closed to nonmembers, but Festivals are open to the public. There is also an annual Gorsedd (general meeting) at which the planning is done for the yearly calendar and other Grove business.
The Order, through the Druidic College, has established a structure and criteria for advancement through the levels of druidic achievement. Once a student starts on the Druid path, they will be known as a “Druid’s Apprentice” throughout their entire course of study. Classes mirror University level classes, with there being classes like History 101 and such. One may also partake of an intensive course of study along either Bard, Brehon or Ovydd path, with that being your sole vocation. All that is asked is that the member continues to grow.

Order administration is centered on an Order Council that meets as needed. Members are encouraged to attend. The council consists of seven officers: The three Directors (the “Keepers” listed above) , Secretary, Treasurer, Youth Coordinator, and Cultural Studies Coordinator (Red Branch) .

Although the emphasis of the Order, and Grove, is on serious druidic study and ritual, the social side of life is not neglected. Nearly all gatherings are followed by a pot-luck feast. Holy days are celebrated as festivals, and Grove members meet for other social events such as movies, karaoke and camping trips. Additionally, the Order will organize an annual Eisteddfod, a literary and musical contests for the Pagan community, and the Cultural studies department will be forming an Iron Age Celtic guild for the Ren-faires.

The Order does not solicit membership. It is listed in Open Ways, on the inter-net, and known by word of mouth. Those who are interested may make inquiries and be invited to attend a Festival. If they then wish to make application to join as an associate member, there is a simple screening procedure. This is not meant to be exclusionary, but simply to ensure that applicants are aware of what the Order, Grove and druidism entail, and the responsibilities of membership.

By closely adhering to its structure and programs, the Druid Order of the Sacred Grove Founding Grove and its member groves hope to provide a nurturing, challenging and exciting environment in which those who have chosen to follow the druidic path may learn, grow and enjoy life in the company of fellow Druids.

At this time, membership is available for everyone, regardless of where you may reside. Seed Groves can form with as few as three people. We have Seed Groves in Killeen TX, Chloride AZ, and Member Groves in Lubbock TX, and Burley ID. For all students, a yahoo group has been set up as an internet resource for students in the Druidic College, and is only available for members of our Order. Membership information is listed on our website, and we now have the ability to accept applications online.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and feel free to e-mail us with any questions you may have.

Bright Blessings to you and may the blessings of the Gods of our people be ever apparent unto thee.
