Group Overview: Greetings Seeker,

We invite you to read about our coven.

Based in Rochester, NY The Coven of Sangha-Shō's structural design and tradition was created at Yule 03 and was founded as a coven the following Ostara- 2004. Its tradition is unique and blends both Western Esoteric Witchcraft with Eastern Mysticism to create a distinctive synergy to honor the Goddess and God. Balance is a key principle as each individual member retains their own tradition, pantheon, and practice while simultaneously learning and committing to coven practice and tradition.

The name of the group has a two-fold meaning; Sangha might best be defined as a 'community of people who gather to nurture and encourage Spirit in themselves and others; while Sho (or Shou) is the symbol of longevity but holds within its core 5 Blessings: Health, Happiness, Long Life, Virtue and Peace. Combining these two parts produces a Spiritual Community who seeks those 5 Blessings in themselves and shares them with others.

Sangha-Sho's structure features an Outer Circle, an Inner Circle and a Coven Council; it is hierarchical in nature but encourages members to voice opinion, and urges members to vote on important decisions that affect tradition and membership.

The Coven celebrates all annual Esbats and Sabbats, although many Esbats are celebrated in closed circle as well as Samhain. The coven offers and hosts classes, fellowship events, service projects and open circle for members and the greater Pagan community.

Community is important for Sangha-Sho; it is a founding member of The Circle of Tribes, a local network of covens in the Rochester area that fosters healthy relationships and open and professional communication. Its other member covens include:
- Circle of the Green
- Sisters of Medusa
- Path of Eternal Light
- Daughters of Bast (formally Lodge of Isis)

The Circle of Tribes always welcomes new member covens that believe in community and promoting good relationships between fellow Pagans. These covens gather once every three years in the spirit of the "gathering of tribes" to celebrate a Sabbat together. [Next Gathering of Tribes is scheduled for 2017]

Currently the Coven has 11 members in the Inner Circle (including the Coven Council - consisting of a High Priestess, High Priest, and Assistant High Clergy) , 3 members of the Affiliate Circle (members transitioning to the Inner Circle) and 12 members of the Outer Circle.

Membership always starts with the Outer Circle; please see our website, click on the membership tab for more details and application. Completed applications can be emailed. All info listed below!

The Coven is committed to learning and growth through spiritual experience and study; there is a 3 degree learning program for Inner Circle members plus Elder Studies once all degrees are completed. Members are expected to lead ritual and attend classes as part of their study program; much of the work is individual and members move at their own pace.

Sangha-Sho is also committed to service, as we believe this is the highest calling of any Witch or Wiccan; to that end, we prepare meals at the Ronald McDonald House, participate in environmental cleanups and in the past have volunteered at the Battered Women's Shelter, Community Gentrification Projects, Clothing and Food Drives, and the Parkinson's Move Day Walk.

In the 12 year history of the coven, we have been privileged to have serious and committed practitioners, many of which have gone on to follow a solitary path or hived to start their own groups. The membership in the group is dynamic and members come and go according to their personal walk with the Goddess- we celebrate both the arrival and departure of members and wish each of them Love and Light!

Finally, The Coven of Sangha-Sho wishes to acknowledge its roots to The Lodge of Isis and The Temple of the Azure Lotus, their High Priestesses had an integral part in training and guiding the coven in its infancy. Also, we honor and remember Janet Preston, First High Priestess of the Coven, known to the Goddess as Sister Siona Terdea who passed into Summerland September 9, 2010.

May you, our reader, be Blessed by the Sho, and may you find your personal faith and truth on your walk on the path!

Blessed Be!
