Group Overview: The GCL has been reformed from its origins and aspires to promote the Thelemic Gnostic current. The Acting Council of Elders belong to a larger group of member churches in the A.M.H.R. Yet autonomy for each local establishment is unique and complete. As a legal, non-profit, religious organization in the State of New York, it is an outer socio-religious appendage of the A.·.A.·..
The central, most sacred rite that ties most of our other rituals together is the Gnostic Mass. However, our rite differs from that which might be called the more traditional rite composed by the Master Therion. And several catechisms on this are also contained herein. We still very strongly respect the original version and it is that version to which this updated version must still refer itself to for access to the root, core of our tradition. The modifications upon this rite now speak to a more enlightened generation of stars and offsets the Victorianism of the first century of Horus. In such a light, we recognize the necessary and equal participation of both genders in the formulation and nourishment of life, which is the true secret of the Philosopher's Stone. Accordingly, the reformulation of the mass transcends the Spermo-Gnostic limitation of its predecessor as it includes both the sperm and the ova in its formula.
For these rites are fully functioning within a community, at this stage of development, it will be necessary to plan a community. For want of a better phrase, one can say that it is our intent to build ‘A City on the Hill’ with the same fervor upon which the founders of the nation from which we originate built theirs. This collective engine will fortify us in our pursuit of Light, Life, Love and Liberty and into the next exciting century ahead of us. And we will surely share in the bounty of the Yew Groves of Yama. Each church has its own Council of Elders with one principal servant who holds the title of Rector. The Rector is teamed with the collective of Rectors from the various churches in a body called the Grand Ecumenical Council.
