Group Overview: Kings County Coven #1 is Brooklyn's only coven of authentic witches devoted to social transformation and personal satisfaction.
We do not identify as Wiccan but rather as Traditional Witches, this distinction is both subtle and complex. In brief , where most traditions of Wicca are primarily liturgical/devotional, Traditional Witches emphasize the practice of sorcery as a value based service to be gifted, bartered, traded or sold to the community at large.
Where Wiccans can be understood as Priests and Priestesses, Traditional Witches are Practitioners and Specialists i.e. fortunetellers, herbalists, teachers, mediums, exorcists, rootworkers, diviners, therapists, spell casters, artists etc.Of course one can explore both Priesthood and Practice simultaneously, in Kings County Coven #1 this is a matter of personal choice.
Wicca and Witch are not exclusive categories, there is much valuable overlap; however proper anthropological research will show that these two practices are not necessarily synonymous. Many of our members identify as Wiccan but we open our ranks to all faiths to learn and train in the cross cultural practice of Traditional Witchcraft.
Kings County Coven #1 advocates scholarly research into the meaning of Witchcraft and offers ongoing training into the pragmatic application of magickal work. We are not quite as 'dry' as this little polemic might make us sound, we're also quite hedonistic and irreverent.
Currently we are holding Open Court training in a beautiful consecrated temple space. We meet "Once a month and better it be when the Moon is Full". Seekers should apply with a detailed letter of introduction.
