Group Overview: “What is a tree but the air we breathe? What is water but our body and blood? What is fire but the burn of passion and desire within our hearts? What is the earth but our home? What is the Spirit but one of the Soul's souls?”
We are The Universal Order of Gaia, a student organization for pracitioners of Nature-based Spiritualties at The University of Toledo. We have been officially established on campus since July 1st, 2011, though we started formation in October, 2010. We currently have about 12 active members that regularly come to meetings, and about 36 members in our online group overall. We are a very open-minded group of people, and we pride ourselves greatly upon that. Though we all share the commonality that we are practitioners of Nature-based Spiritualties, we are all very different in terms of what paths we come from and what we believe. We have a Pagan-Buddhist, a member of the Ba'hai Faith, a few Pantheists, a couple of Wiccans, some Witches, two Discordians, some Norse Pagans, an Alchemist, and some explorers, among a few others. We are a diverse bunch, but we share a huge amount of love and acceptance for one another.
Our regular meetings for the 2012-2013 school year are every Monday (unless we're on break) , from 6pm-9pm, in the Student Union, (or the Quad outside the Union, depending on the weather) , at the University of Toledo. Right now, we are on Summer Break, but still having some informal meetings, though right now there are less attendents because many members are out of town or working more hours. Regular meetings will resume on Monday, August 27th, the second week back at school. Regular meetings generally consist of going over a handout with information about holidays from all paths and many cultures, a God and Goddess of the Week, a Gemstone of the Week, an Herb of the Week, Quote of the Week, etc. as well as a general lesson (or if it's a meeting before a Sabbat, a review of the Sabbat Ritual Format) , with periods for discussion, reflection, and socialization. We are also considering implementing special ideas for New Moons and Full Moons, (such as a New Moon Creativity Sharing Circle, Full Moon Healing, or things of that sort for meetings that fall on or near Esbats) . For information regarding Sabbats, special events, summer meetings, and meeting locations/room numbers, please call or email.
OUR PRINCIPLES OF BELIEF 1. We believe there are as many Paths to the Great Spirit as there are people on Earth and that no one Path is better than another. 2. We believe in the interdependence of all things. We are all connected. We are all one. 3. We believe that the Divine is manifest all around us and within us. 4. We believe that EVERYONE has the right to be respected- regardless of religion, race, gender, age, nationality, sexual orientation, status, and disability. 5. We believe in celebrating the changing seasons and the Wheel of Life through ritual.
OUR STATEMENTS OF INTENT 1. We seek to live in harmony with nature and attune ourselves to the natural cycles of the Earth. 2. We seek to walk in balance and live our lives with love, for the Love is the Law. 3. We seek to protect the Earth, our home. 4. We seek to harm none in either deed or speech. 5. We seek to use Magick and the natural energies around us and within us for the highest good of all creation, in accordance with Divine will.
OUR HIGHER PURPOSE 1. To provide a community of believers and practitioners of Nature-based Spiritualties and Pagan Traditions. 2. To provide a safe, respectful place for those who wish to discuss their beliefs, ideas, and opinions. 3. To provide a place for people who practice Nature-based Spiritualties to learn more about their faiths. 4. To support members in the expression of their Constitutional Rights, specifically those devoted to freedom of religion, speech, and the press. 5. To promote the ideas of peace, love, and worldwide unity. 6. To open a channel of communication between those who practice Nature-based Spiritualties and those who don't. 7. To dispel myths and false ideas about those who practice Nature-based Spiritualties and Pagan Religions. 8. To disseminate information concerning Nature-based Spiritualties and Paganism. 9. To celebrate the holidays and special occasions of Nature-based Spiritualties and Pagan Religions. 10. To service the community.
