Group Overview: The Ordo Aeternus Vovin (OAV) is a not-for-profit, religious, spiritual order dedicated to helping gay and bisexual men discover themselves and their place in the universe. We do this by teaching the Law of Thelema and the techniques of meditation and ceremonial magick. Our system is a synthetic system composed of several traditions of western ceremonial magick, Sumerian mythology, tantric practices, an "invented" queer mythos and theology, Thelema and meditation. It is our goal to help gay and bi men live fuller more satisfying lives.
In addition to the work we perform with our initiates, we sponsor several events that are open to the larger LGBT community that focus on alternative paths of queer spirituality. These paths include neo-paganism, new age thought and ceremonial magick to name a few. In this way, the men of our order serve our greater community by sharing of their Light, Life, Love and Liberty.
Why OAV?
We are frequently asked why the Ordo Aeternus Vovin exists and why the order is important for men who love men. After all, there are many spiritual groups that teach Thelema and Magick, so why is the OAV necessary. There are a number of reasons that this is important.
A Need for a Queer-Centric Spirituality
Traditional spiritual paths are not often welcoming to queer practitioners and many are even hostile to queer adherents. Even those that are supportive of gay and bi men, none provide a spirituality that provides an understanding of a queer man's place in the universe. The Ordo Aeternus Vovin is unique in that we teach a spirituality that is centered around queer men as having a special place in the universe and a unique understanding of the spiritual nature of humankind.
A Need for a Sex-Positive Spirituality
While there are certainly many spiritual paths that do not deny sexuality, there are very few that actively encourage a healthy expression of sexuality. Sexuality is often seen as unrelated to spirituality and any teaching on sexuality is purely an afterthought. The Ordo Aeternus Vovin sees sex and sexuality as part of the divine spark within each person. We teach a sex-positive spirituality that embraces sex between men as an expression of divine creativity.
A Need to Understand Polarity Detached from Gender
Many magickal and spiritual practices, embrace sexuality and see the blending of polar energies as a necessary step to creating change. However, this is often expressed as the coming together of male and female, often through heterosexual sex. The OAV explores the concepts of polarity without assigning gender. Instead we rely on understanding energies as dark/light, active/passive, insertive/receptive, and so on. This provides a magickal framework that men who love men can more easily relate too.
A Need for More Brotherhood
Sadly, the gay and bisexual community is not always known for embracing one another and our many differences. Our society also makes it hard for men to express love and appreciation for one another. The OAV provides a spirituality that fosters acceptance, love and brotherhood between men.
