Group Overview: Sassafras Grove, ADF is the Pittsburgh area chapter of Àr nDraíocht Féin, an International Druid Fellowship.
Since 1992, we have been providing the local Neopagan community with quality, open celebrations of the eight High Days of the ritual year. Join us as we celebrate our 20th anniversary year!
Our rites follow a well researched and spiritually effective format based on years of practice and the best modern scholarship available on the ancestral ways of Europe and the British Isles.
Sassafras is a multi-hearth culture grove, taking inspiration from various Indo-European cultures including Celtic, Norse, Greek, Roman, Slavic, Vedic, and Anglo-Saxon.
Sassafras Grove also offers various other public events throughout the year.
As part of our “Second Friday” series at Moonstones and our new programming at Spring Tides in Allison Park, we sponsor semi-monthly bardic circles, learning and teaching traditional folk music and sharing our own poetry and songs, blessing rites that give us opportunity to work more informally within ADF ritual structure and workshops on ADF and Neopagan subjects.
Workshop topics have included Druidry 101, ADF and Wicca, Tolkien and Modern Myth, History of Neo-Pagan Druidism, Anglo Saxon Runes, Neopagan ritual structure, and discussions of hearth cultures, and their relationship to ADF.
In addition to public events, we host regular member-only activities including druid moon rites, field trips and a monthly study group to support people working through the Dedicant Path and other ADF study programs.
We have recently implemented more activities and learning opportunities for children and have renewed our commitment to community service.
What you will find in Sassafras is a bunch of friendly, sincere people of varying levels of familiarity with Neopaganism, Celtic or Indo-European studies, and ADF Druidism. Many of our attendees are beginners to all of these topics; please understand that we believe that every individual present has something vital to contribute to the process.
