Located in: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Key Contact: Maria Stoy

Spiritual Path: Pan-Indo-European Druidry
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Teaching Available

Group Overview: Sassafras Grove is a Neo-Pagan Druid group located in Pittsburgh, PA. We are affiliated with Àr nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (pronounced “arn ree-ockt fane” – modern Irish for “Our Own Druidry”) , or ADF for short.

Since 1992, we have been providing the Pittsburgh Neo-Pagan community with quality, open celebrations of the eight High Days of the ritual year. Our liturgy follows a well-researched and spiritually effective format based on years of practice and the best modern scholarship available on the ancestral ways of Europe and the British Isles. Sassafras is a multi-hearth culture grove, taking inspiration from various Indo-European cultures including Celtic, Norse, Hellenic (Greek) , Slavic, Vedic, Roman and Anglo-Saxon.

Sassafras Grove also offers various other public events throughout the year. As part of our “Second Friday” series at Moonstones Metaphysical Haven in Dormont, PA, we sponsor Bardic Circles and Workshops on ADF and Neo-Pagan subjects on the second Friday of most months. During our Bardic Circles we learn and teach traditional folk music and share our own poetry, stories, and songs . Workshop topics have included Druidry 101, ADF and Wicca, Tolkien and Modern Myth, History of Neo-Pagan Druidism, Anglo Saxon Runes, Neo-Pagan ritual structure, and discussions of hearth cultures and their relationship to ADF.

We also hold Blessing Rites most months that give us an opportunity to work more informally within the ADF ritual structure.

In addition to public events, we host regular member-only activities including Druid Moon rites, field trips, and study groups to support people working through the Dedicant Path and other ADF study programs.

Our High Day celebrations often include activities and learning opportunities for children, so little ones are more than welcome to join us. The Members of Sassafras Grove also engage in community service projects throughout the year including collecting food and supplies for the Animal Friends Chow Wagon Program and participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS.
