Reading Pagans & Witches A WitchVox Sponsor

Age Range/Type: Adult
Located in: Reading, PA, Pennsylvania
Key Contact: Jen Anderson-Wenger
Spiritual Path: Eclectic
Status: Established Group
Community Support: Open Circles... Legal Clergy... Teaching Available

Group Overview: A Little History: We are Reading Pagans & Witches, a discussion group founded in the Fall of 2004 as a face to face social gathering for the local community. From or meager beginning with only one person at our first meeting to having almost four dozen people attending our meetings less than a year later, our group has grown. Our online community currently boasts over 200 members. We have since expanded past being strictly a social group and are currently involved in community service projects including Pennsylvania's Adopt-A-Highway project, working with Berks Women in Crisis, and are WitchVox sponsors. As of 2007 we are also sponsors of the Reading Pagan Pride Day.
Activities: We have at least two meetings a month during which we talk about everything from what's going on in our lives to more structured talks on different paths, divination, candle magick, etc. We also hold more hands-on meetings where we do things such as making incense and holding rituals. Each December we host a Yule Ball where guests dress up and come out for a great evening with music, food, and friends. In 2007 we held our first Imbolc gathering and hoted the PA May Faire. Future plans include hosting Reading's first Pagan Pride Day as well as trips to Jim Thorpe, New Hope, and Salem.
Activities for Families: At RPW we endeavor to include family-friendly events in addition to our more mature oriented activities. Our family days have included trips to the Youth Day at the PA Renaissance Faire, May Faires, and the Celtic Fling. We've also held Egg Hunts for Ostara and a kids' Earth Day Celebration. In 2007 we formed the Family Time-Out Circle which meets monthly for trips and activities.
When We Meet: We meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, starting at 7:00pm. The locations are listed on our calendar for each meeting. Typically the meeting on the second Wednesday is at a local residence while the meeting on the fourth Wednesday is at Borders Cafe in Wyomissing. You can find our schedule on our online calendar. The Discussion Group is geared for ages 13+, though we request if you are between 13-17 a parent attends (at least your first meeting or two) and grants permission for you to attend.
Community Service: We support local charities, including Berks Women in Crisis, with things such as adopting families for the Holidays and donating appliances and other household goods as well sa monetary and food donations. In 2005 we joined the Adopt-A-Highway program. We have adopted a stretch of Rt 12 in Muhlenberg Township. Since joining the efforts to keep our highways clean we have picked up over 200 bags of trash, two dozen tires, and a dishwasher. Also in 2005 we became WitchVox sponsers to help keep it an ad-free and fee-free resource. In 2007 it is our goal to complet our application for 501-c-3 status.
