Group Overview: The Order of the Taibhsear was formerly known as the Black Mountain Druid Order. Our Order was founded in 1997 by former members of Emerald Coast Grove in Pensacola, Florida. The Order moved to Black Mountain, North Carolina in 2000 and took the name of Black Mountain Grove at that time. Black Mountain Grove became an Order in 2003 when it began training apprentices in the Black Mountain Order of Druidry.
As our practice, which was rooted in Druidry, began to change and to grow, we became more eclectic. We had always been a bit unorthodox, as our founding members came from diverse spiritual paths such as Cherokee, Wiccan, Asatru, and eclectic Celtic origins, but as our practice has grown we have adapted as well. Although we still remain rooted in a primarily Celtic Druidic orientation, we have moved more towards a shamanic approach in our teachings and practice.
To reflect this growth and change, in 2015 Black Mountain Druid Order became the Order of the Taibhsear. The Scots Gaelic word “Taibhsear” is roughly equivalent to the word “shaman.” So Taibhsears are the shamans of the Celtic world. As our Order continues to move more towards vision questing, vision seeking, dreamwork, and working beyond the veil, we have changed the name of our Order to reflect this change.
We offer a FREE Dedicant Path course in Druidry and Paganism as practiced by the Order of the Taibhsear.
This Dedicant Path Coursework is a free online introduction to the Way of the Seer/Vision-Seeker as practiced by the Order of the Taibhsear. This is an experiential, self-guided course designed to be completed in the 13 months of the Taibhsear calendar. We use a lunar year, so this 13 lunar months works out to be a year and a day of the solar year (or 365 days) .
Each lesson is designed to be completed over a month’s time. There are thirteen monthly lessons, for a total of a year’s worth of lesson plans, based on the Taibhsear’s lunar month of four weeks (28 days) . Some of the lessons contain videos, so you will need a computer capable of viewing streaming video from Youtube. Some also contain audio lessons as well as written materials, so you will need to be able to download and listen to audio files (mp3s) .
Each lesson is broken down into four weeks’ worth of activities. Each week has a subject of focus and most weeks have at least one written reflection. For the written reflections, you are required to post your responses on the Elder Grove Seminary Student Posting Board.
Successful completion of the Dedicant Path course is the equivalent of 12 credit hours of general education for any of the programs offered at Elder Grove Seminary.
The lessons in the Dedicant Path Course serve to give you a good basic foundation in Druidry and Paganism as practiced by the Order of the Taibhsear. As with all things, cling to what is useful to you, and discard the rest.
